Unfortunately, selling fees on eBay are going up again, as announced today in the Seller News (the fee structure is being adjusted). As so often, only those who follow the rules and are registered as businesses are affected. While legitimate sellers have to bear higher costs, so-called pretend private sellers can simply keep going: sellers who offer new goods on a large scale without appearing to be commercial, without taxes, without legal obligations, with numerous violations of eBay rules – and above all: without the corresponding fees.Over the course of months, numerous accounts were reported, some with hundreds of new-item listings. What happened: nothing. Instead, the number of these black-market sellers keeps growing steadily. If eBay consistently shut down these “pretend private sellers” and made them pay, a fee increase would probably not have been necessary at all to cover costs.The real problem, then, is not the honest seller – but a market in which distortion of competition is tolerated. And this dilemma has a name: “pretend private sellers”...
