Money is being withheld for absolutely NO reason..
Summary: polymerah is discussing difficulties with eBay, where his account was first restricted because of rapid selling activity, but now the proceeds are being withheld for a month. Despite proven successful transactions and positive feedback, the money remains denied to him. samantha@ebay from eBay explains that this is standard due to a lack of long-term selling history and that they are waiting on buyer protection cases. polymerah questions this practice and expects more transparency, especially about why a bank account that has already been verified is being checked again. Other participants such as perfect-sally and petersmodellbahnstuebchen try to provide additional clarity and refer to eBay processes.
Good evening..
I’m really starting to despair over eBay.. First my account was restricted because as a new seller I processed TOO much over a short period of time.. Okay, still somewhat understandable.. Submitted everything, tax ID, ID card, etc.. Then after two weeks it was finally unlocked for selling again.. So one problem solved...
And now comes the next kicker.. Quite a few payouts are being withheld for almost a month.. Why..? Because eBay has simply decided it will be that way.. The items have arrived according to tracking and have already been rated positively by the buyers.. But still eBay says: "Well, that’s just how it is.. Be patient.."
No, I really don’t have any patience left.. What is this supposed to mean..? I’m in extreme moving stress and have to watch every damn cent twice and three times over.. I’m not selling this stuff because I’m bored... Could someone please take a look at this and manually speed it up..?
Best regards

Mentor3 weeks agoHello @polymerah
Your account is only 3 weeks old and you have a lot of listings and sales.
We wait for the buyer protection period to expire here before making a payout. Over time, this will be shortened or completely lifted, and you will receive the money directly.
It is not possible to speed up payouts.
Thanks for the tag @perfect-sally

OP2 weeks ago@samantha@ebay I have to honestly say, your reply really irritates me and leaves me with more questions than it answers..
Among other things, you point out that I sold a very large number of items within a relatively short period of time. And that’s exactly the point I don’t understand at all.. Since when is it a negative thing on eBay if a seller generates solid sales and successfully completes numerous transactions in a short time..?
Quite the opposite: If a seller lists, sells, packs, and ships a large number of items in the shortest possible time and thereby generates corresponding fees for eBay, that should actually be seen as positive selling performance, especially if the buyer rewards the overall package with positive feedback..
I put an enormous amount of work into my sales in the shortest possible time and really grinded.. That this high sales volume is now basically being presented as a red flag or negative factor, I honestly find pretty absurd.. What exactly is supposed to be problematic about that..?
And now it gets even more interesting for me:
In the meantime, I have kept selling, even though the sales proceeds already earned had not yet been paid out in full. And now my bank account has been verified again, even though it had already been successfully verified before and nothing at all has changed in my bank details.
Why..?
If my account has already been successfully verified, what specific reason is there for verifying it again..?
Because from my point of view, the picture now looks like this:
I sell a lot in a very short time → eBay withholds the money generated from that → I keep selling and more funds are added → and then even the already verified bank account is checked again.
If that’s an automated risk or compliance process, then of course you can call it that. But then I also expect a plausible explanation of what specific circumstance triggered this re-check.
And before the “Other shipping” argument comes up again: everything is documented perfectly on my side. I shipped everything via large letter, shipping bag, parcel, or small parcel through DHL/ Deutsche Post. Without exception. You have the corresponding proof right there on your monitor in black and white...
I also don’t want to accuse anyone here of eBay deliberately holding back funds in order to be able to work with them as long as possible. I have no proof of that. But I do think it is perfectly legitimate as a seller to ask why an already verified bank account is being checked again, why payouts are being withheld at the same time, and what specific reason there is for that.
And that’s exactly where the transparency is still missing for me. By now I understand that eBay can withhold payouts under certain circumstances. But that’s not the question.
The question is:
Why is my money being withheld in my specific case, why is my already verified bank account being checked again, and why is my high sales volume apparently being viewed as a red flag in the process?
If you have concrete answers to that, I’d be very happy to hear them.
Because a general statement like “Unfortunately, that can’t be sped up” doesn’t answer any of these questions. The 30-day return policy is not a 30-day payment term for eBay.
And honestly: If a seller sells that many items in such a short time, in my opinion eBay’s reaction should not be “First we need to check everything,” but rather: “Strong sales, keep it up.” 😄

Of course that's a negative thing if you sell a lot of items and, as you say, make solid sales - especially as a supposedly private seller! Of course eBay will exercise caution there, and it's quite possible that you'll then be asked to switch your account to a business one!

OP2 weeks ago · EditedInteresting that you only focus on the point “sold a lot” and completely ignore all the other questions.. 😄
Just to clarify: The items are private belongings from MY household liquidation, not purchased goods for resale.. The items were already in my private assets and were taxed accordingly at the time.. Your “supposedly” is therefore obsolete..
And maybe you could also address the other questions while you’re at it: Why is a bank account that has already been verified being checked again, why are payouts being held back that have already been rated positively for weeks, and which specific transactions or proofs are actually affected..?
And again: The 30-day return policy is not a 30-day payment term for eBay.. So why does one usually sell off their household..? Certainly not out of boredom.. I need money.. Buyer gets goods.. Buyer is satisfied.. Buyer even leaves positive feedback.. Seller gets money..
So please spare us your standard “I’m referring you to eBay’s terms and conditions” answers, honestly..

Mentor2 weeks agoHi @polymerah
even if you think it’s a run-of-the-mill answer, take a look here to see when and why Ebay withholds payments.
And if you reply to an answer from Ebay staff after a week, it’s not guaranteed that they’re even there and will read your reply in a timely manner.
Maybe the lovely @melina@ebay can give you some more info, thanks Melina. ❤️

OP2 weeks ago · EditedDear Peter.. Thank you for your reply, but I’ve now read these guidelines several times.. However, they in no way refute the problems I’ve raised with eBay.. They really do make it unbelievably easy with the “or are available within 31 days after the buyer’s payment”..
Plus, I never expected the eBay employee to reply directly.. However, @perfect-sally got involved in this issue, so I should be able to expect fully comprehensive answers to my questions as well..
So.. Why can’t the amounts that have been positively rated by the buyer simply be released..? Do you think that after four weeks the buyer will then say:
“Oh, XYZ has now gone up in flames for me.. I’d better return that now.. The sellers don’t have it easy on eBay anyway.. The customer is king, hehehe rofl looool xD..”
Why aren’t replies from regular sellers allowed here anyway..? THAT would be the definition of a forum.. As it is, it’s just a bunch of people defending their employer or whatever the hell..
Well, except maybe @perfect-sally .. He/she is whining elsewhere that a (unjustified) neutral rating isn’t being deleted and it already was for someone else.. So that’s a reason for you to complain..!؟ And my topics by contrast aren’t..!?

Mentor2 weeks agoHi @polymerah
"Why are no answers from regular sellers actually allowed here..? THAT would be the definition of a forum.. As it is, it's merely a collection of people defending their employer or God knows what."
You are publishing your post in a subsection of the forum, the "Members help members" area. Only mentors, eBay employees, and the topic creator themselves can reply here.
The mentors are not eBay staff or otherwise obligated to eBay in any way. And this group also includes experienced / "regular" sellers.
Kind regards from the Baltic Sea

Mentor2 weeks ago@polymerah I wasn’t whining, I was calling out the two-tier society that rules on eBay! Injustices just really get under my skin, especially when they affect me too!
And were your topics maybe not answered, or not answered yet? It’s entirely possible that something slips through when who knows how many requests come in one after another, which by the way are also supposed to be answered! Unfortunately, we don’t have a list here for the order, and we’re certainly not obligated to respond!
Nevertheless, we naturally still try to help all users regardless, or else bring in the eBay staff.

Mentor2 weeks agoHello @polymerah .
Thanks for the feedback. We understand that withholding the amounts is frustrating for you. However, it is not related to whether the items are private belongings.
The key point is that with a sales account that is still new, there is initially no sufficient sales history. Even if buyers leave positive feedback, they can file a claim for an item or open a buyer protection case within 30 days. Within the 30-day buyer protection period, we must be able to ensure that possible claims from buyers are taken into account. That is why payouts can be held back longer during this phase.
Once sufficient sales history has been established, the payout timeframe can speed up to 1-3 business days.
Thanks for looping in @petersmodellbahnstuebchen
Kind regards
Melina

Mentor2 weeks ago@polymerah sorry for the late reply, but even business sellers sometimes have other things to do.
I think your further questions were answered by Melina, and if not, just get in touch again.
And you also shouldn’t be surprised if actual business sellers see things a bit differently than those who sell masses of items and also offer a larger share of new goods.
Ebay is unfortunately far too lax in sanctioning this, but there are also other places that are interested in it.

Mentor3 weeks agoAccording to your details for sold items, you sometimes ship via Other - whatever that is supposed to be, and for others it says DHL parcel. Parcels generally do not have a tracking number and also no proof of delivery.
How did you actually ship the "Other" ones?
Reviews generally do not speed up payouts and are not accepted as proof of receipt.
I also don't think payouts can be speeded up, but let's just ask an eBay employee. She'll get back here.
@samantha@ebay could you please take a look? Thanks a lot
