Big scam with Midea Portasplit units on eBay! Who else got caught by this, unbelievable what's happening there!!!
Summary: sunshine.xy reports an eBay scam in which she bought a Portasplit system and later found out that the tracking number was fake. Despite PayPal buyer protection, her claim was initially rejected. After several attempts and resubmitting the case, she eventually received a refund. voli-maus suggested discussing the case with eBay employees and urged caution in similar situations. sunshine.xy plans to go to the police and consider a class action lawsuit. This highlights the ongoing problem with scams like these.
Hello,
unfortunately I fell for the big scam with the Portasplit units on eBay.
I bought one for 359 euros, honestly thought hey, there’s PayPal buyer protection on it, it’s a business seller, several people are already buying, maybe they really are cheaper over there.
1 hour later I received the seller’s reply inserted below, and was immediately transferred 2 euros back.
A few days later a tracking number suddenly appeared in my eBay purchase.
1 day later the account on eBay was blocked and deleted.
2 days later the item was supposed to be delivered by JCEX, I was in the garden at the time, which is visible from the street, and suddenly it popped up as delivered, but there was no delivery person to be seen anywhere.
Now I have opened a PayPal buyer protection case, which was rejected 2x with the reason that there is a tracking number proving the item was delivered.
Unfortunately PayPal says you can’t call buyer protection directly, they can only pass certain things on to them, but PayPal never asked for the domestic tracking number from JCEX that would prove it was delivered to me, because there isn’t one!
Always just the reason that the JCEX tracking number is available, (and I also didn’t get any domestic tracking number from JCEX).
It sounds like an AI response to me.
There are already so many complaints about JCEX about fake delivery tracking numbers like this, I’ve been on eBay for 26 years now and have never come across anything like this, and then PayPal not doing anything either, surely hundreds of complaints must be coming in.
1. JCEX only delivers overseas and then hands it over in Germany to a local delivery company, I would like the name of the domestic company (DHL, Hermes, UPS, etc.) and the tracking number for it so I could take action against it. Unfortunately you can contact JCEX however you want, nobody can be reached, and I also believe PayPal never even tried to reach anyone there.
Also, the place it was delivered to only says my place of residence, no street, no name, just where it was delivered to!!
2. JCEX has no permission to leave it with me.
3. The message, the 2 euros back, the deletion of the account, the fake tracking number, that is definitely fraud. Unfortunately I have already opened a PayPal case, which I didn’t know means eBay can’t do anything anymore.
I will also go to the police tomorrow.
Would a class action maybe help?
Here is the email I received:
Dear customer, due to ongoing system disruptions at eBay, we are currently unable to process merchandise shipments through our account. There are currently major technical problems on the eBay platform. Please submit a request for a refund to your payment service provider or credit card bank for “goods not received.” As soon as you have submitted this request, we will immediately refund you the full amount.Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us. We are always happy to assist you.
And above all, everyone please take care, this scam is still going around on eBay. They’re there for a day, sell, take the money, and then they’re gone.

Hello @sunshine.xy and thank you for your detailed post. We’re sorry that you had to have this experience.
Since a payment dispute has already been opened via PayPal, any further processing will take place there. Regardless of that, we take firm action against such activities and have since also blocked over 30 linked seller accounts in this context.
Your exchange here in the community helps raise awareness among other members and at the same time makes it visible that reports are being followed up and appropriate measures are being taken.
Thanks for including me, @voli-maus !
Kind regards
Miriam

Mentor2 weeks agoHello @sunshine.xy ,
didn't you already report about this yesterday, or was it someone else?

OP2 weeks agoAdditional note, also at the address where it was delivered only the place of residence is listed, no address, no name!!

OP2 weeks agoSo now a result came out. I reopened the case via PayPal on the grounds that no name and no street were listed, and I have now been refunded the money.
I’m honestly surprised how many scams there are these days that I’ve now been caught too, unbelievable. Stay vigilant.
