Have you guys experienced something like this on eBay too?
Summary: s.harzer shared a frustrating experience with a purchase on eBay where they received the wrong and defective product. After a lengthy exchange with the seller and eBay's involvement, the case was closed unfavorably due to a seller-provided invoice. Dissatisfied, s.harzer sent the item back, but the package was returned because the seller's address was invalid. bootyooty requested an eBay representative to review the case, and selina_b@ebay explained that eBay can no longer intervene due to an ongoing dispute with the payment service. s.harzer clarified the timing of events, leading to an apology for any misunderstanding about their intent to inform, not attack. The discussion highlighted the challenges buyers might face on the platform.
Hello everyone
I have a question — has this happened to any of you too?
After the incident I’m about to describe, I’m thinking of turning my back on eBay for good, even though I’ve enjoyed being on eBay since 2003.
Now to the incident:
I bought Corsair LL120 RGB case fans + Commander Pro, that’s what it says in the description and that’s also how it’s advertised on the sales page.
What I got was Corsair LL120 RGB case fans + Commander Core, which, as tech-savvy people know, is not the PRO.
Furthermore, it turned out that if you already have the Commander Core, you can test it and maybe use it for another build (PC build).
But as it turned out when testing, the Commander Core isn’t even fully working.
Defective on ports 2, 3 and 6 of the RGB hub.
So not only did I get the wrong item delivered, but also a defective one.
I also informed the seller about this, which in the end led to an escalating exchange of messages.
I was forced to involve eBay, and shortly afterwards eBay closed my opened case with the explanation that the seller had, after all, delivered a Commander Pro, based on an invoice he uploaded that said Commander PRO on it — nothing more.
That was enough to close the case.
But since I wasn’t willing to accept that, I asked for the seller’s address after the case was closed, and I got that too.
It should be noted that when the case was opened and still open, I didn’t get any address.
The package was sent back to the seller with tracking.
That would actually have been the end of the story, but unfortunately there’s one more act in this botched story.
I checked DHL tracking for the tracking number and what am I supposed to write?
DHL is sending the package back to me:
The recipient could not be found at the address on the shipment.
One would be a fool not to suspect something fishy.
That was what I wanted to share with you all.
eBay doesn’t care about buyers.
Everyone can draw their own conclusions from that.
Since this isn’t my first incident — just the tip of the iceberg — that’s it.

OP1 month agoSince I haven’t written any update here in the last few days, today I want to give an update after I apparently received the wrong return address from EBAY. I got a different address for the return shipment from my payment service provider. So I sent the goods back to the post office and to the sender with tracking. And this time the goods were accepted too; now the only question is how I get reimbursed for the return shipping fees that didn’t work out the first time. I’ll probably be stuck with the costs. And let’s not even talk about the deleted review, I’m leaving that alone. If anything new comes up, I’ll let you know. In any case, EBAY didn’t make a good impression in this whole story. The consequence of this story is that I’ve now set all my activities on EBAY to 0. And I’m thinking about making the story public on various review portals. Another point why I’ll probably do it: after I contacted EBAY to let EBAY know that the address is wrong, I was told that service would contact me and that they’d help, but nothing happened. Silence in the woods, with that in mind, if there’s anything new, I’ll get back to you.

OP1 month agoHello Service EBAY, you closed the case before I had switched on my payment provider. Only after you closed it did I ask my payment service provider to review the case. So that’s a disgrace for Ebay. Everything I’m saying here, I can also prove with transcripts of the messages from everyone involved.

Mentor1 month agoWe are not ebay’s support service here, but a community with other users! We didn’t close anything at all, and otherwise we have nothing to do with it either. And there’s no need to prove anything to ebay anymore, since as written the case is no longer in ebay’s hands and only the payment service provider decides now.

OP1 month agoHello perfect-sally
If that came across that way and you think I was trying to stir things up here, I apologize, that wasn't my intention. I just wanted to make it clear that Ebay really upset a buyer here, nothing more. And let others know that they might want to consider whether they're willing to tolerate mistakes like that or not. That wasn't an attack on anyone or anything. Thanks for your post

Hello @s.harzer ,
Thanks a lot for your post.
The return has been closed because you opened a payment dispute. As a result, we no longer have the option to intervene.
Please wait here until the payment provider has made a decision.
@bootyooty Thanks for tagging 😘
Best regards
Selina
