I very rarely sell on eBay and I’m having a run of bad luck anyway right now, so I’m almost not surprised that even a simple sale here is causing trouble again...
I sold a Switch 2 game collection. The shipping was sent as an insured parcel with ID check. The tracking says that the parcel is being sent back to me because no one could be reached at the address. The buyer himself points out that he hadn’t updated his address on eBay since moving, and that’s why it was sent to the old address. He’s asking me to please resend the package to the new address at his expense.
Unfortunately, I suspect there’s a scam going on to bypass buyer protection, or am I being too suspicious? My idea now was that once the package arrives back with me, he cancels the order. Then I would relist the game and he could buy it again, this time with the current address. Would all of that make sense for me? Could any extra costs arise for me?

No, you're not being too narrow-minded! However, it's not buyer protection that's being bypassed, but your SELLER protection is gone if you do that! Cancel the purchase and put the guy on the block list.
