Buyer does not pick up item

Hello folks, more than three months ago I sold an item, big and heavy, so pickup only. The buyer paid right away, but despite repeated requests still isn’t making a pickup appointment and just isn’t responding. Because of that, I never received a pickup code either. Now the transaction was ended by eBay. So I can’t cancel the purchase and refund the money either. Since the buyer has paid, the item is now legally his, although the purchase amount only gets credited to me once the pickup is confirmed. It’s only about 15 euros, and I’d actually just like to put the whole thing behind me. So what’s the situation with ownership now? Kind regards, W. Massing

Thanks for your post. A refund through eBay is only possible within 90 days of the purchase date. If that period has passed, the only option is a refund outside of eBay. For that, the buyer has to contact you directly and provide their payment details. For the future, we recommend cancelling the purchase in such cases within the 30-day period so that a timely refund can be processed automatically. Mentor2 weeks agoHello @kramosa that kind of thing is obviously unpleasant... but through eBay you can no longer cancel the purchase, and a refund is only possible up to 90 days later.
In any case, you’d have to write to the buyer, declare the purchase contract void due to non-fulfillment (pickup), and say that the buyer no longer has any claim to it.
As for how it looks with the refund, @melina@ebay can tell you.

Mentor2 weeks agoThe item doesn’t belong to you, but to the person who paid for it.
If that person doesn’t get in touch or pick it up, you’re allowed to keep the item for now until 31/12/2029 in case they change their mind during that time.
Why does one wait so long before taking action? Of course, after that time the purchase can no longer be canceled, and of course a refund is no longer possible through eBay either.
