Buyer reports
Summary: blasserdunst sells a culture on eBay and ships it uninsured for €1.80. After two days, the buyer reports that the item has not arrived and opens a case with eBay. blasserdunst explains that there is no tracking number for a large letter and offers to send the culture again if the buyer covers the postage. Concern is expressed that buyers could claim they did not receive the item if no tracking number is available.
I sold a culture for €5 and bought it for €1.80 postage via eBay; there’s no tracking number, so it’s uninsured. After just two days, the buyer wrote to me. He hadn’t received the item, and after four days he’s now opened a case and I got the following letter

Hello blasserdunst,
We would like to inform you that your buyer has opened a request because he did not receive the item.
Here are the next steps
If you have already shipped the item to the buyer, please обязательно upload the tracking number to eBay so that delivery to the buyer’s address can be confirmed.
If you cannot complete the order, please issue a refund to the buyer. You will then receive a credit from us for the refundable fees in accordance with our Fee Credit Policy.
I replied that the letter is not insured, that I’d be happy to send the cultures again at my own expense, but that he should then cover the postage
I don’t know how the customer will react now, but he can keep my five euros. This isn’t about five euros anymore, it’s about the general question of how to deal with uninsured large letters, because this isn’t the only time I’ve sent something like this. Can any customer just claim that I didn’t receive the letter, even though I bought the postage through eBay? They can see that I bought the postage. Why should I have to provide a tracking number now? There isn’t a tracking number for a large letter

Mentor1 month agoFirst of all, this has nothing to do with whether it’s insured or not! If you can’t provide a tracking number and there’s no delivery confirmation to the buyer, you have to refund if the buyer reports an item not received.
If you don’t do that, eBay will step in and you’ll get a defect on your account.
