Buyer wants a discount after receiving the item
Good morning,
I sold a Matchbox car that is over 50 years old in used condition for 15 euros on 30/7/2026. Today, after 4 weeks, the buyer got in touch and complained about minor defects. He wants a discount. I wrote to him and pointed out the age and the used condition. I also asked how much of a discount he wants, but so far there has been no reply. What can I do?

Mentor6 days agoHello @ghf206 this is as @perfect-sally already mentioned, a return can be opened 30 days from the delivery date. According to my calculation, that period expired yesterday. You can initiate a full or partial refund for items in Seller Hub or in My eBay up to 90 days after the original transaction.

Mentor6 days agoIf you’re still within the 30-day buyer protection period (30 days from the delivery date), you should come to an agreement with the buyer, because they could still open a return on the grounds that the item is not as described. Then you’ll have to pay return shipping as well and give a full refund.
It’s not up to the buyer to “demand” a partial refund; if anything, you should offer one and name an amount.
I can’t stand people like that, so I offer to take the item back; I’m not letting myself be put under pressure by that. However, I’m a commercial seller, so things work a bit differently anyway.

30 days after the delivery date (31.7.2026) would then be up, so he wouldn't be able to make a return anymore?
He wants to keep the item, but get a price reduction

Mentor6 days agoSince ebay is very strict about deadlines, I'm not quite sure whether buyer protection has expired there.

Mentor6 days ago@ghf206 a return through the eBay system is not possible because the deadline has expired. You can reach an agreement with the buyer, has he already left you feedback?

Mentor6 days agoBesides, I personally also find it strange that an item is only looked at after 4 weeks, and then there are defects. ☹️ You check an item promptly after receiving it, unless you're on vacation or otherwise unable to do so.

OP6 days agoYes, sick and otherwise prevented. The car is over 50 years old, I listed it as used and with 5 pictures. You can always find minor defects, but he wants to keep it and get a price reduction. He paid 15 euros, how much am I supposed to refund??
