Can I offer 2 shipping options for a private sale?
Hello, can I offer 2 shipping options if I want to sell an item privately? For example, either (cheaper) large letter or insured parcel, as desired. Then the buyer just needs to click the desired shipping method. I couldn't find anything about that.

Mentor2 weeks agoHello @traianusgmx of course private sellers can also offer 2 shipping methods. I would by no means ship without proof of dispatch. And besides, 99% of buyers will anyway choose the cheaper shipping option.

OP2 weeks agoHello perfect sally, thanks for the reply. You write that of course private sellers can offer 2 shipping methods. That’s clear to me, but I’d like one of the 2 options to be selectable by the buyer with a click and for the buyer to be able to pay directly. If that works, could you tell me how? I can’t find anything about it. I can offer it via the text in the item description. But then I have to create a new invoice for the buyer after the purchase, which is inconvenient.

Mentor2 weeks agoI’m not aware of it being like that. The buyer clicks Buy item and then selects the shipping method to complete the order, and ebay then sends the relevant payment info so the buyer pays the correct amount for the chosen shipping option.
For me, after payment this is shown in the purchase details: what the buyer selected and which parcel service it should be shipped with, and I don’t have to send any extra payment info.

Mentor2 weeks agoI think it also depends on the settings tool, whether it's the app or the quick or advanced settings tool.
Then somewhere there should also be "add more shipping services" appear, at least that was the case once.
And as already said.... it’s not just a tracking number that counts, but what matters is proof of delivery.
That’s why I also advise against sending a simple large letter; the loss rate will certainly increase there, since buyer protection then kicks in.

... if someone works with framework conditions, however, the procedure has to be described by someone who uses those too

many thanks for the answer. I’m afraid combined shipping only works if a buyer purchases multiple items. But the following passage makes me doubt that I can offer multiple shipping options for one item:
After a listing has ended, you may only change the shipping costs under certain conditions.
Increase shipping costs
After someone has bought your item, you may only change the shipping costs originally shown in the listing if the buyer wants combined shipping for multiple items — or if they ask for express delivery and want to pay for it.
If a buyer wants faster or otherwise more expensive shipping, first send them a message and ask them to only pay after they have received a new invoice with updated shipping costs.
Then agree with the buyer on which shipping option should be used, and send them an invoice with the updated costs. To do that, proceed as follows:
Go to Orders.
Under “More actions”, select Send invoice.
Enter the new shipping costs and choose Send.

Hi Bernd,
sorry, I misunderstood you there.
The buyer always has a choice when you add another shipping service in the advanced settings tool.
I don’t use that myself, since I work with set conditions. But even here it’s possible to store multiple shipping services that the buyer can then choose from.

thanks for the tip about the conditions. I had to search and try a bit, but then it worked. Since I'm not on eBay that much, I only activated the Seller Cockpit Pro today. Great thing. Of course it's better to offer insured shipping with tracking. I sell the odd CD/DVD for €2-3; with shipping costs of €6.19, no one buys them anymore.
