mammoth ivory necklace
eBay removed my sales listing for a mammoth ivory necklace, saying it didn’t comply with the guidelines. The fact is that mammoth ivory comes from an animal species that went extinct 10,000 years ago and isn’t protected because it’s been dead for a long time. You can also read on Google that mammoth ivory, which is still found in thawing permafrost in Siberia, can be sold without any problems. So what’s that supposed to mean?

OP1 month agoto be brief: a mammoth was an animal from prehistoric times, a giant elephant with brown, long fur. even today, many remains are still found in Siberia because the permafrost is thawing due to climate change. this ivory from the tusks may be made into jewelry, etc., because this species is extinct, was never protected, and can no longer be protected. in the Stone Age they were hunted for meat + fur. I have not offered a piece from protected elephants here - which I would never do - but only 1 necklace that I have not worn for years - a piece made from extinct mammoth tusks. it really must be possible to tell the difference, right? anyone who doesn't know that or won't believe it should please do their own research!

OP1 month agohi, I can’t just let this stand here. it’s a huge difference whether animals are being killed now for some kind of products or 1 item from an animal species that went extinct 10,000 years ago, like the mammoth. according to Google, it may be bought and sold. we never acquired goods for resale, but collected a lot over decades thanks to our hobbies. we want to sell these for space reasons, and they’re not easy to get rid of. the sales of 1 whole year are very small considering the amount! also, there are still many things from friends + acquaintances included, so what’s this nonsense about. is someone perhaps trying to claim that Google is lying?!

Mentor1 month ago · EditedYour comparison is off! The other animals from which the ivory has already been processed are all dead too! Ebay does not want that on its platform, and ebay is the landlord, after all. If you list it again, your account will be suspended!
Moreover, with the amount of items you have and the new goods, you are definitely not a private seller! That could get expensive too!

You typically act as an entrepreneur or commercial seller if you:
buy items in order to resell them
sell items that you have made for resale
regularly sell large quantities of items
sell similar goods, especially new goods, over a longer period of time
frequently sell new items that you did not acquire for your own use
According to case law, the following are indications of commercial activity:
operating an eBay shop
number of current sales: if many items are continuously sold over a longer period of time, this is generally a commercial seller
gradual sale of a private collection over many years
type of items sold (new or used goods, value): the sale of several similar navigation devices was classified as proof of commercial activity – as was the offer of 250 batteries in various sizes with reference to the availability of larger quantities.
a website or the use of advertising copy that gives a professional impression
Note: We regularly review the trading activities of our sellers and may ask them to mark their eBay account as a business account. You should also expect to receive a paid warning letter from competitors or consumer protection associations and to be taken to court for injunctive relief.
