Oddities with an eBay purchase
Summary: verkaufsaccount123 reports irregularities in an eBay purchase of a rare model car from a Chinese seller that was no longer in stock but was still bought. Although the purchase date is correct, a different end date was shown. mia@ebay explains that the seller listed the item via eBay.com and the item was offered again with a different number, suggesting that it is available twice. verkaufsaccount123 receives a shipping notification and tries to cancel the second purchase, but with a less-than-ideal cancellation reason. Hello everyone,
today, after a long search, I bought a very rare limited model car that can’t be found either on Ebay D (worldwide search) or with the relevant dealers. Quite by chance, I found one more copy through Ebay NL from a Chinese seller.
The Ebay no. is 298326120725, the order no. 23-14867-62021
The transaction also appears on Ebay D under "My purchases", but with a few oddities. I’m not worried about scam or anything like that, I just want to understand these discrepancies.
The Ebay no. can’t be found in the search, neither on Ebay D nor on Ebay NL, not even under "Ended bids" or "Sold items"
Above the line "You bought this item" it says: "This item is no longer in stock"
After "Ended" the date says "17 July 2026 13:37:25 CEST"
(see screenshot) Maybe someone can explain these oddities to me.

OP2 weeks agoHello and Moin,
one last update: today I received the model I bought first (the 2nd one was, as it wasn’t available, refunded immediately), incredibly carefully packaged, I think it could even have survived a plane crash! So all in all a very positive buying experience. (Although, despite all the doom and gloom, I have never had any problems with purchases from China so far...)

a quick interim update: today I got the shipping notification incl. tracking no. for the model I bought first. I also received an email from the 2nd seller.
That was, mind you, the account that had sent me a price suggestion days after my 1st purchase!
I then, as requested, “asked” to cancel with the only somewhat fitting reason: “Won’t arrive on time”.
I can understand that the seller wants to avoid a defect because they are offering goods they don’t even have, but I’m not too keen on the reason also given for other “air sales”: “Buyer asked to cancel”. I don’t know whether or how this affects my status in the long run (I’m only a buyer; I stopped selling long ago...)
What do you think, isn’t there a better way to cancel a purchase? e.g. with the reason option “Seller can’t deliver” or something like that?

The seller listed the item on eBay.com. And that’s where it’s also being shown.
The seller limited the listing in time. Without a seller, the listing would have automatically ended on 17/07/26. That’s why you can see this listing marked as “Ends”.
Since the item was listed with a quantity of 1, this model is no longer in stock after your purchase.
If the seller no longer had the model, a canceled purchase would look different and you would receive a message about a canceled purchase.
Your seller actually listed these items twice with different item numbers. So I also assume that he owns this model 2 times.
I hope you get both models quickly.

if the item is no longer in stock, but the listing is not ended (but only hidden), the item can still be added to the watchlist, as far as I know that is correct
that a different end date is shown than the purchase date? ... maybe that is the duration of the fixed-price listing (I think it's always 30 days, after that it is basically renewed)

thanks for your replies! How am I supposed to understand this, an item is out of stock, but the offer hasn’t ended? For the 1st purchase, a delivery date of approx. Fri, 24 July - Fri, 31 July is given, for the 2nd purchase (for which I received and accepted a price offer today) the delivery date is supposed to be approx. Mon, 27 July to Mon, 3 August. Since the model is no longer being produced (limited edition of 300 units worldwide), the seller must either have it in stock, or he can’t sell it...
This all seems a bit suspicious to me.

OP1 month agoOne more small addition: of course I paid for the model right away via PayPal, and I also received the confirmation email from eBay that my order had been accepted.
Another oddity: As can be seen from the screenshot, the field "Add to watch list" can be clicked on the purchase confirmation, which as far as I know is otherwise not possible for items that have already been bought.
This morning I received a price suggestion for the same model from another account, but one that is identical to the first, and I accepted it too. All the oddities there are the same as with the first purchase; that means I either have 2 models, which isn't a big deal, or double trouble if something is wrong with the listings...
The data from the 2nd purchase: eBay no. 206280419397, order no. 03-14907-25210.
I would really appreciate it if one of the mentors or an eBay employee could take a look at the matter; after all, the Chinese are known for dragging the process out until buyer protection has expired, so I want to be able to react in time.
