Hello, the buyer of my smartphone now wants to reverse the purchase after receiving it. My description and my photos pointed out all the important things; when I asked him what the problem was, he no longer replies. I then looked at his ratings and he has at least 3 ratings of the same kind. His shipping address is in Germany and his account is registered in Poland. That looks like a scam.
What happens if I don’t agree to his return?
Does he have the upper hand because of eBay buyer protection?

You don’t have to accept a “normal” return as a private seller, but if it’s a complaint, you can’t refuse it at all and have to take it back and even pay for the return shipping from the delivery address to which you shipped it.

OPAug 16, 2026 at 5:03 AMHe says that it’s not functional and that it was offered in the wrong category. I had a picture of the smartphone as it was on and documented the crack on the screen with a photo.
As I said, I’m not getting an answer to my question about what the problem is.
If I have to reverse the transaction, will he then get the money once I’ve received the smartphone back?

if the buyer opens a return with the reason "not as described", you have to send them a shipping label and issue a refund after receiving the return.
