Return completed, goods still with the buyer
Summary: A participant initiated a discussion about a return process where the item still remains with the buyer, despite the return being marked as complete. perfect-sally and gnomimami engage in multiple exchanges, but the details of their conversation are not provided. Additionally, petersmodellbahnstuebchen and verena@ebay participate without further elaboration.
But: I still have the goods in my possession, the return status says "completed" (return no. 5320484105). What does that mean for me now? Is the seller waiving the return shipment? Or do I still have to send the goods at my own expense? What is the right way to proceed?
There is a similar case from Muriella 509 from 29.5., but it mentions a "goodwill decision," so I was unsure whether that could also apply to me... I look forward to your reply and thank you for it!

Mentor1 month agoHello @gnomimami,
Thank you very much for your post!
The cost of returning the item must be borne by your seller in this case. This means that they will either provide you with a free return label or reimburse you for the return shipping costs in advance. However, some sellers also voluntarily waive return shipping to save on shipping costs.
As long as your seller does not enable you to return the item for free, there is nothing you need to do. Nevertheless, I recommend that you keep the item for now, as the refund comes directly from your seller and is not a goodwill payment from us.
Thanks for the tags, @perfect-sally and @petersmodellbahnstuebchen! 😽
Best regards
Verena

Mentor1 month agoHi @gnomimami
please provide the order number once. Then the lovely @verena@ebay can surely advise you how to proceed, thanks Verena. 🤗

Mentor1 month agoYou definitely do not have to send it back at your own expense. If the seller wants their item, they must either provide you with a return label or cover the costs in advance.
If you give the item number, an eBay employee can check whether it was goodwill again or what it looks like otherwise.
@verena@ebay could you take a look please? Thanks 😉

OP1 month agoThe order no. is 19-14639-38445
The seller neither wanted nor was able to cover/reimburse the return shipping costs, nor create a return label. This can clearly be seen from the message history.
The purchase price refund was apparently initiated by eBay (automatically?). I did not explicitly request it - at least not through buyer protection, I did with the seller... But I'm glad that I received the money!
But what do I do with the goods?

Mentor1 month agoIf the seller is abroad, he may not be able to create a label, that's correct. But that he can't send you any money to buy the label yourself is completely wrong. Of course that doesn't work through eBay, it has to happen outside of it.

OP1 month agoI won't be able to get rid of the item (unless I pay for the package) - and risk an argument with the seller? Or does "return completed" mean: the matter is settled for me (as a gesture of goodwill? Like in the example mentioned)

Mentor1 month agoPlease wait until the eBay staff member here reports in, she can take a look and make clear statements. We only see it from the outside, so to speak.
