Return started, seller is taking their time
Summary: vinylus99 reports that they ordered the wrong car battery and refused delivery on the dealer’s advice. A problem came up when registering the return on eBay, which led to frustration. bootyooty explains that refusing delivery is not a legitimate withdrawal from the purchase contract and criticizes the dealer’s bad advice. mia@ebay finally shares that the eBay buyer protection case was closed in favor of vinylus99 because the seller did not respond. vinylus99 expresses frustration with the complexity of eBay processes and suggests improvements.
Hello, I ordered the wrong car battery. Right away I contacted the seller on eBay. He said I should refuse acceptance. The item had only been electronically announced at DPD and had not yet been picked up. The seller said the shipment was in progress and I should refuse acceptance. I did that, the unopened item went back right away on 05/08. I started a return. The seller already received the item. Took a DPD screenshot. Contacted the seller. No reply. Now a message from eBay that I should close the return. I just told the seller by message that he has long since received the item and asked for a refund. For details on the return, so the return shipping no. does not work. A system that does not work. What steps should I take? Thanks

Mentor1 month agoHello @vinylus99 ,
thank you very much for your post. Since the seller asked for the delivery to be refused and I can see the delivery at the seller’s address, I have now closed the buyer protection case in your favor. Your seller has also not responded to any message about the delivery so far, and the refund period has also expired.
@bootyooty - Thanks for the support and the tag
Best regards
Mia

Mentor1 month agoHello @vinylus99 you made a mistake and the seller gave you the wrong option. NEVER refuse acceptance, because then it is not a return and is also not covered by buyer protection.
For a return via ebay, you need a tracking number, i.e. accept the item and then send it back, enter the tracking number in the return and wait for the refund. That is how the system is set up, and it only works that way.
@mia@ebay would you be so kind as to take a look at this?

OP1 month agoI didn’t make a mistake. I’m not a lawyer and I notified the seller that I had ordered the wrong item. I asked him to cancel shipping. He replied that the item was already in transit. And I have to refuse acceptance. I did that. The item went back immediately. I started a return. On eBay under return details you can enter tracking information. I tried to do that. DPD, tracking number - doesn’t work. Always an error message. The system says the error is on eBay’s side, not mine. I can’t enter the tracking no. It would be good if eBay fixed this technically. They have all of this in writing and I made screenshots. Now I’m curious to see how this goes on. Shifting the blame to the buyer won’t work this time. I’m documenting everything.

OP1 month agoEntering the return number on eBay doesn't work: error message:
There was a problem
It's not you, it's us. Please go back and try again.
My suggestion: fix the software.

Mentor1 month agoYou don’t need to study law to know that refusing delivery is neither withdrawing from the purchase contract nor, let alone, a revocation. Nothing is being reworked here, you shouldn’t have refused the delivery; the retailer gave you the wrong advice, plain and simple.
You don’t have a tracking number for the return; the word return alone already means that YOU have to return something, which you can’t do if you refuse delivery. It’s obvious that the shipment can’t be re-entered to you with the tracking number, because it already exists.
And with all due respect.... I’m not passing blame back and forth here, it still stands: you should NOT have refused the delivery, the retailer gave you incorrect information.
Have a nice day

OP1 month agoIf you have followed eBay over the last few years, then you have probably noticed that problems have increased. Return procedure, refusal to accept, etc. - everything is not logically structured. A clear purchasing structure is needed. That is missing, or is vague. Thank you for your advice. The refund is underway. The case is resolved.

OP1 month agoAnd speaking of wholesalers: how about discussing the return policy with the dealer and informing him?

Mentor1 month agoThere are regulations for almost everything in Germany, however ebay is NOT responsible for monitoring them!

OP1 month agoThat’s why things in Germany are only going downhill. Germany loves things complicated and expensive.
