Returns and refunds
Summary: allesmir2015 asks about the return process on eBay, since a buyer has opened a case because of a damaged item. They’re currently not at home to accept the return, and ask whether eBay refunds the amount even though the item has not yet been sent back. perfect-sally explains that eBay usually refunds the buyer and records this as a defect in the seller account. They also clarify that the buyer needs a return label and that eBay doesn’t take the seller’s absence into account.
Hello,
A buyer wants to return an item because it is damaged, I have accepted the return.
Right now we are not at home and there is no one there who can accept the return shipment.
We will be back on 21/07/26. No response.
I told the buyer that, and even offered a price reduction.
The buyer did not respond and opened a case. On 14/07/26 eBay will step in in the case.
What happens then?
My question: Does eBay refund the buyer the amount, even though the item is not yet with me?
Do I absolutely have to print out a shipping label, I don't have a printer?
Can someone help me or give me some advice.
Regards to everyone.

Mentor1 month agoHi @allesmir2015
you can store a different return address (relatives, friends, etc.) in both the return label and in your account for the duration of your absence, and then provide the label to the buyer.

Then eBay refunds it and you get a defect on your account.
And no, why do you need to print a label? The buyer needs a label to send it back, not you. Where you buy that and how you pass it on to him is your business.
And eBay also doesn't care whether you're absent.
