Returns from buyers
Summary: jmr233 is having problems with a buyer who claims that a fur coat he bought from him was damaged. Although he offered a price reduction and reported the buyer to a platform, the case was decided against him. bootyooty explains that when the case was opened, jmr233 should have sent a return label and now has to handle the return himself. perfect-sally recommends describing items truthfully and emphasizes that the responsibility for the return lies with him. jmr233 disagrees, saying the descriptions were accurate and included pictures, and asks why the platform does not step in when problems happen repeatedly.
I'm having problems with a buyer. He bought a fur coat from me and claimed it was damaged, which definitely was not the case.
I offered a price reduction and reported the buyer to eBay after I found out that this buyer had pulled the same thing before.
The case was opened and decided against me. I would like the coat back, but I no longer have any way to send a return label through eBay.
Can eBay simply decide whether the buyer is allowed to keep the coat?
I don't agree with that; that's almost fraud or theft.-
Please help

Mentor2 weeks agoYou seem to keep running into problems with your fur items. On September 21 it was the smell of smoke, and now it’s damage. Maybe it would help to describe your items truthfully and explicitly mention all defects (including smoke smell) in the item description.
If it were fraud, that would be more on you if it wasn’t described correctly. It’s not theft, since you didn’t enable the return for the buyer in an eBay-compliant way.
However, that does not mean the buyer is allowed to just keep the item. You are responsible for the return shipping, and with the case decision the matter is settled for eBay and you can take care of it yourself.

OP2 weeks agoI didn’t find descriptions for any of the listed fur items that indicate a non-smoker or smoker household.
And I won’t be accused of not having described the condition correctly. There were enough pictures with the fur items. With the customer who supposedly smelled of smoke, I sent and answered lots of follow-up questions and photos.
In the other matter, other sellers have now also come forward. They haven’t received a return despite the return label. Why doesn’t eBay step in there? You can’t just opt out.

Mentor2 weeks agodespite the return label, it's already something different; with you too, though, because you didn't send him one, that's just on you.

Mentor2 weeks agoI don't have a task, I'm an eBay user like you and I answer questions in the community to be helpful.

Mentor2 weeks agoHello @jmr233 you could and should have sent a return label when the case was opened, otherwise buyer protection simply decides exactly as it has now been decided.
Right now you only have the option of instructing the buyer to pay the costs so that he can send your item back. ebay has nothing to do with that, you have to arrange it.
Besides, ebay did not decide that he may keep the coat either; you simply failed to cover the return shipping, and that is your responsibility.
