Seller agreed to cancel the order in messages but then rejected my cancellation request
Summary: lorn_acid_rain explained that after winning an auction for a LEGO lot, they realized they missed a note in the description about missing parts. They contacted the seller to cancel the purchase, and the seller agreed via message but later rejected the cancellation request on the platform. lorn_acid_rain is seeking advice on whether to contact eBay support with screenshots showing the seller's initial agreement to cancel, or if they should wait for the unpaid order process to conclude.
Hello,
I won an auction for a used LEGO lot, order number 15-14-88142302.
After the auction ended, I realized that I had overlooked the information in the description stating that some parts were missing. I immediately contacted the seller, explained that this was my mistake, apologized, and politely asked to cancel the purchase.
At first, the seller was unhappy because the item had already been packed, which I understand. However, the seller then clearly wrote:
“Ich finde es sehr schade, da Sie den Artikel überboten haben. Werde jedoch akzeptieren und den Kauf rückgängig machen.”
In English:
“I think it is very unfortunate because you outbid other bidders. However, I will accept it and cancel the purchase.”
I thanked the seller for understanding and apologized again.
After that, I submitted the official cancellation request through eBay. However, the seller rejected it, and the order is now still shown as active. I continue receiving payment reminders from eBay.
I understand that I made the original mistake by not reading the description carefully enough, and I take responsibility for that. However, the seller explicitly agreed in the eBay messages to cancel the transaction and then did the opposite in the cancellation system.
What should I do now?
Should I contact eBay support and provide screenshots of the conversation? Can eBay review the messages and cancel the order, or do I simply have to wait until the unpaid order process is completed?
Thank you for your advice.

why should Ebay cancel the order? You sent a cancellation request, the seller rejected it.
If the seller now cancels the purchase due to non-payment, you’ll get a note on your Ebay account, which in the event of repeated occurrences will make it so that you won’t be able to buy from many sellers in the future. Because no seller likes non-payers.
