with the problem, for which I would have liked to contact a staff member (in vain), it is about this: A buyer selected €0.95 postage for a letter shipment. I bought the label through eBay, which includes basic tracking. The number is on the label. Unfortunately, the post office refuses to scan the label (only then is the posting confirmed). Motto: "That isn't предусмотрed with €0.95, then they have to make it registered mail for €3.30". Great, for a sale of just over €5 (stamps). The whole thing recently cost me "goods and money gone", because the recipient simply claimed the shipment hadn't arrived. Despite reporting the basic shipment number, eBay decided against me. Motto: Shipment number was not registered. I actually don't want to experience that again...
WHAT TO DO? No staff member calls back despite the corresponding chatbot promise...

Yes, basically that's true, but in the shipment tracking you also can't see that the letter was sent because it wasn't scanned by Deutsche Post.

OP1 week agoAs someone already explained: Apparently they’re only scanned at the mail center - or not at all.
In that case, Ebay really should end seller protection there, because it creates an apparent sense of security that, in an emergency, isn’t there. With basic shipment tracking, delivery is NEVER confirmed, only arrival at the destination is ever confirmed.
I then also wonder why I should still buy the labels for such shipments directly from Ebay.

I can of course understand your concerns regarding higher shipping costs, however the fact is that we need valid proof of delivery to avoid situations like the one you described, and a letter shipment cannot meet these requirements.

eBay itself says that there is seller protection for shipments with basic tracking if postage is purchased through eBay
but since there have been more and more complaints for quite some time about letters that aren’t scanned, eBay should perhaps rethink this in general and point out that only regular registered mail or parcels with the corresponding tracking number are accepted - everything else just causes trouble for sellers

It was about basic shipment tracking. And it still says "waiting for the data" when you check. In other words, the letter just hasn't been scanned at the shipping center. For whatever reason. ..

if the status with Deutsche Post looks the same, you may need to file a complaint with Deutsche Post.
Ebay generally works with their data.

The order back then was: 14-14968-76715. By the way, the basic shipment tracking still says "we are expecting your shipment data shortly". And the recipient simply claimed it hadn't arrived. (They could see what it said too). Goods gone, money forcibly refunded - and now I've got another letter about buying labels via eBay and the worry that this could happen again. By the way, someone from eBay finally called a little while ago to explain to me that, well, I should just charge higher postage and send it via DHL parcel. Aside from the fact that this would also be possible by registered mail: who is supposed to buy goods for €4.90 if there's €3.30 postage on top? For smaller items, I always try to offer buyers the cheapest possible postage.

the buyer couldn't have chosen any other shipping method anyway, it was only declared as letter shipping.

OP2 weeks agoThanks for the Aw, but: that didn’t happen with the last shipment. To this day, it still says under the basic shipment number "waiting for the contact details". Buyer opened a case, Ebay decided against me, despite sending the tracking number, result: goods gone, money gone...

Mentor2 weeks agoThen you also don't have proof of shipment and buyer protection applies for the buyer.
Unfortunately, seller protection does not apply then. If you could please give the item number, an eBay employee can take a look at it.
