Invalid delivery address. Please enter a different address.
Summary: mn_bb has experienced issues when purchasing items on eBay with 'eBay International Shipping' due to an error message about an invalid delivery address in Hungary, despite having used this address successfully before. perfect-sally noted that the new EU packaging directive does not affect buyers and suggested checking with eBay staff. verena@ebay advised setting the Hungarian address as the preferred delivery address, which worked, but created problems with saved searches for mn_bb. samantha@ebay asked for further checks, and mn_bb confirmed the error persists when switching addresses during checkout.
I’d like to buy a Buy It Now book that is shipped from the USA with "eBay International Shipping".
In checkout, "eBay Checkout," I select a different shipping address than the default address.
(The default address is in Germany, the other shipping address is in Hungary.)
So I choose the other shipping address by clicking on 'Select'.
After that, the error message appears
"Invalid shipping address. Please enter a different address."
with an editable form for the address.
The other shipping address in Hungary was created years ago and has been used countless times successfully, most recently on August 4, 2026.
I also verified that the seller ships to Hungary.
The whole thing is reproducible with different items and on different platforms (browser, app), although in the iOS app no error message appears, just a white screen with no content.
Has anyone had similar experiences?
What could the problem be?
Could this have to do with the new EU packaging directive that came into force on August 12?

OP2 weeks agoIf I set the preferred delivery address to the German address and then switch to the Hungarian delivery address during the checkout process, the error message still appears.

Could you please try once to see whether you can complete the purchase if you set the Hungarian address as your preferred delivery address before adding the item to the cart and going to checkout?

OP2 weeks agoYes, if I make the Hungarian delivery address the preferred delivery address, the purchase works.
But that can’t be the final solution, because that would then create new problems with the saved searches: only items that are also delivered to Hungary would then be found. (At least that was the case some time ago. Of course I’m not checking that all the time.) Then a few of my searches wouldn’t return anything at all.

Mentor3 weeks agoFirst of all, the packaging directive does not apply to buyers, only to commercial sellers in the EU.
The Americans probably have other concerns. And as has often been read here, with an international shipping program some items apparently cannot be shipped to Germany or the EU, for whatever reason.
If you could please mention the item number, we will ask an eBay employee whether she can see why that doesn't work.

I mainly buy textbooks in the USA. There have never been any problems before.
