Hello, I want to sell an item that will be more expensive than the usual €500 that is offered with shipping insurance from DHL or Hermes via eBay.
I’ve now tried to find a point somewhere in the shipping options where I can select the higher insurance already in the listing.
But that isn’t offered to me as a private seller? Why, or am I missing something, or does that only work after the sale, or can I not do that online but only at the branch? I can’t find any clear info on that.
Who can clarify this for me?

OP3 weeks agoI’m not familiar with Hermes either. With DHL it goes up to €2500, or even up to €25000 if you can fit a car into a box up to 31.5 kilos, or something... ;-)

OP3 weeks agoOK, so with DHL you can insure items up to €2500, it costs a few extra euros with DHL and is worth it if you ship valuable goods. Up to now, I’ve just done it out of convenience so that I handled the shipping costs and the label directly in the eBay form after the sale and then simply dropped the package off at the Packstation. For small stuff under €500, that’s OK. But if it’s high-value, you don’t want to risk ending up without compensation during shipping.
But as I understand you, I can’t do that directly through eBay in this case, but have to do it on DHL’s site or at the branch.

Offer free shipping and build the shipping costs into the listing price. Then buy the shipping label from the corresponding shipping provider. You’ve already been told that you should watch out for whether additional insurance is offered.

Mentor3 weeks agoThere is a shipping cost limit for many categories! I’ve never seen extra higher-value insurance in the ebay shipping details.
And you can only book that on the shipping providers’ websites. And still, you need to pay attention, because not all more expensive items are covered by higher-value insurance.
And as far as I know, for example, Hermes doesn’t even offer higher-value insurance at all.
