Cheated by eBay and the seller. What can I do?
Summary: alphaente reports a problem with a purchase on eBay, where only 25 ID card sleeves were delivered instead of 50, and they were damaged as well. The attempt to contact the seller failed, so an eBay case was opened. Although money for the damaged sleeves was refunded, the issue of receiving the remaining 25 sleeves remains unresolved, which led to great dissatisfaction and frustration. perfect-sally points out that the case may not have been opened correctly, and vera@ebay confirms that the case was closed because of the wrong quantity and that no further appeal is possible.
I bought 50 ID card sleeves from a seller on eBay. They were supposed to deliver 2 packs with 25 sleeves each.
However, the seller only sent 25 sleeves, and the ones he did send were damaged too. So there is a double defect here. On the one hand, too few (only half), and on the other hand, damaged as well.
I contacted the seller, but he didn’t want to address the issue, which is why I had to open an eBay case.
Because this purchase had a double defect right away (too few and damaged), I didn’t know which reason I should give for it. The eBay system is pretty inflexible here. I stated that it was damaged, which was probably a mistake.
The eBay seller then uploaded something that was anything but a return label. The post office couldn’t have done anything with it at all. The eBay system treated this as a return label, but - as written - it was anything but a return label, and it was an enormous struggle until the eBay staff finally understood that.
I have now got my money back for the damaged sleeves. But eBay is completely ignoring the fact that I only received half of the sleeves. So, as written, only 25 sleeves and not 50.
eBay should be ashamed of itself for this miserable customer service. Because of this issue alone, I wasted over 20 hours completely needlessly, which only cost time, nerves, and energy. It seems they now do a lot with artificial intelligence there, which doesn’t seem to be developed at all and seems like a complete case for the trash heap.
After a long struggle, I have now got my money back for the damaged sleeves. But eBay completely ignores that the seller only delivered half.
What do you do in a case like this? I would already like to thank you for any helpful replies.

MentorJul 13, 2026 at 12:00 PMHello @alphaente ,
Thank you very much for your post.
I looked into the case for you and found that the case was opened with the wrong quantity. In order to issue a full refund, the case must be opened with the correct total quantity. This case was closed with the refund, so an appeal cannot be filed here.
@perfect-sally thank you very much for tagging 😊
Kind regards
Vera

OPJul 14, 2026 at 6:47 PMWhat do I do now? This is not correct. Do I now have to file a criminal complaint with the police?
Actually, I had already specified the correct number. It is true that “only” 25 cases are damaged.
But the eBay system is so inflexible that you can only report one issue and not multiple ones. 25 cases were missing and 25 cases were damaged. I kept writing this to eBay. But you can’t report at the same time that too few were delivered and that they were also delivered damaged.
I am regrettably extremely disappointed and frustrated with eBay. I have certainly wasted 20 hours on this matter and needlessly used up time, nerves, and energy. But eBay customer service is anything but good, and the countless emails brought absolutely nothing.
I am extremely disappointed and frustrated.

OPJul 13, 2026 at 11:31 AMThe item number is 117119485218.
I only got half of my money back. Namely only for the damaged cases.
But eBay is ignoring the fact that I should also get the other half of the money back, since the seller only delivered half.
The seller only delivered 25 cases and not 50.
However, I could only report to eBay that 25 cases are damaged.

MentorJul 13, 2026 at 11:10 AMI don't understand your excitement, after all the money was refunded according to you!
And in cases like that, you open a return because the item does not match the description. It doesn't matter whether something arrives damaged or is simply incomplete.
Where did you buy it? Abroad, perhaps? Please state the item number.
