Mystery payment dispute, label canceled
Summary: simplethinking reports on a payment dispute case on eBay that was initiated by the payment service provider, although the buyer knew nothing about it and even left positive feedback. alena@ebay and perfect-sally clarify that the payment service provider is involved and that eBay has no influence over it. In addition, simplethinking is having problems with a shipping label that can’t be canceled; alena@ebay has forwarded this for review. petersmodellbahnstuebchen notes that a saved drop-off location may be preventing the cancellation and expresses general dissatisfaction with the bureaucracy.
Hello everyone,
yesterday I received a message from EBay that, regarding a purchase from 4 weeks ago, a payment dispute was triggered by the payment service provider because the customer allegedly demanded their money back because of “package not received”.
Aside from the fact that seller protection kicked in, EBay then writes that they do not claim the money back from the buyer. Now for the mysterious part. The buyer knows nothing, neither from the payment service provider nor from EBay, that any case was opened.
He didn’t open anything. He also left me a positive review. How can that be?

And then one more thing. For one item I triggered the wrong label. This simply can’t be canceled. I created it on Sunday and then noticed it right away. But canceling just doesn’t work. There’s no button or link. Why can that be? It used to work.

Maybe someone knows what to do...
Many greetings

Hi Alfred,
could it be that your customer has specified a drop-off location (a known bug already)? You should be able to see that in the shipment history.
If so, only Ebay can cancel the label for you. Maybe the lovely @alena@ebay can take another look here, thanks Alena. ❤️❤️
Best regards from the Baltic Sea

OP1 month agoHello Peter,
yep. that's right. Has a storage place. It's pretty funny that then nothing can be cancelled anymore. Sometimes it just happens that a label is created too quickly or the customer then buys 2 other items after all. Then it would be stupid to send lots of individual packages.
So, has the EU been blocked already too? I don't think the bureaucrats in Brussels really think things through. And then you wonder why the economy in the EU is getting worse and worse.
Best regards,
Alfred

Hi Alfred.
I’ve only been shipping to domestic addresses for several years now, because I don’t want to subject myself to the terms and conditions of all possible eBay websites, and I also don’t want to take part in the whole bureaucratic EU madness for cost reasons.
If my customer has a German delivery address, they’re very welcome to buy from me, no matter whether they’re in Timbuktu or Lummerland.
Kind regards from the Baltic Sea
Peter

OP1 month agoHi Alena,
Thanks for the quick reply and for passing it on.
In the payment case, the buyer says it wasn’t him. He knew nothing about it. Except, but you don’t want to assume that now, he would want the goods and the money because he knows that eBay doesn’t reclaim the money.
But that’s pure speculation. It just seems a bit odd to me.
Best regards
Alfred

Mentor1 month agoIn the event of a payment dispute, this is handled through the payment service provider and eBay is out of the picture. However, that does not mean that the payment service provider won’t also demand a refund.
