I’m interested in this watch, which is being offered as new and still factory sealed.
I have two questions for the community or for eBay:
How can such a watch be certified or checked for authenticity/condition without the manufacturer’s warranty being voided by opening the watch or removing the seal by a third party?
If disputes later arise over the manufacturer’s warranty (e.g. because the original condition was compromised, and Breitling denies any responsibility) — who is liable then? Is the seller liable, eBay itself (under the Authenticity Guarantee), or does the risk remain solely with the buyer?
I would be very happy to hear about any experiences or official information from eBay.

eBay works with Stoll & Co. on authenticity verification for watches, a company whose services and expertise have been thoroughly vetted. The company’s experienced and dedicated watchmakers and technicians use highly advanced technical equipment in a new, state-of-the-art business location in Germany.
What happens during authenticity verification?
After receiving the watch, the authenticity verifier first checks whether the item and the presentation materials match the listing title, description, and images. They then carry out a multi-step authenticity verification. Once the check has been successfully completed, a card with a QR code is enclosed with the watch, confirming its authenticity and providing detailed information about the watch.
To increase protection for buyers and sellers, the item may as part of the authenticity verification be compared with a database or register of lost or stolen watches. If an item is marked as lost or stolen in such a database or register, eBay eBay or its partner will cooperate with law enforcement agencies to the extent required by law, who may decide on the further whereabouts of a watch reported as stolen or lost.
The authenticity verification of watches by the authenticity verifier includes the following steps:
An inspection of the exterior of the watch, in which the following 10 parts of the watch are checked: crown, bezel, dial, case, clasp/buckle, bracelet, hands, movement, crystal, and end links.
Checking the water resistance of a watch with a dry testing device for watches whose water resistance has been determined by a pressure test.
Light cleaning and battery replacement, if necessary.

Mentor1 month agoHello @hymnofabrokenman an eBay employee can probably answer that best and most accurately. I myself think that the so-called, or if you like, self-appointed experts who are supposed to certify such items should also know what they are doing or are allowed to do so as not to jeopardize manufacturer warranties! To me, all of this is too vague and lacks substance. But if eBay would stand behind it in an emergency.....
