Offers to the unsuccessful bidder appear publicly as new offers visible to everyone. Why?
Summary: shovelfxb reports a problem on eBay where offers are incorrectly visible to losing bidders as public Buy It Now listings when an account other than the original one is used. It is criticized that eBay creates public listings without the user's consent, which violates eBay's own rules. perfect-sally points out that discussions may only be conducted from the affected account, which leads to confusion and frustration for shovelfxb. petersmodellbahnstuebchen shows understanding for the technical challenge, but emphasizes that no information can be expected without the affected accounts.
I don’t understand it. You’ve sold something, but the buyer doesn’t pay. So, for example, you make an offer to two losing bidders. That is also how it’s displayed. That’s what this function is for and how it’s described.
But that only applies as long as you’re on the eBay account that was used for it. So the eBay account where the item was actually sold, but the high bidder doesn’t pay and where now the purchase is supposed to be offered only to those two losing bidders.
If you use any other eBay account, it gets completely weird. So if you don’t use the account where the item was sold, but a completely different eBay account.
Because then you notice that the offer - only to the two selected losing bidders - was relisted without any action on my part as a Buy It Now offer. Not for the selected losing bidders, but as a completely normal listing that everyone can see and buy. Not just once, but for every losing bidder you selected, an extra Buy It Now offer is relisted by eBay, which everyone can see and everyone can buy.
Without you having any influence over it, several new listings are simply automatically created by eBay for just one item that you only wanted to offer to the two losing bidders.
And that is a problem.
You don’t want to create a normal listing visible to everyone, but only make an offer to two specific losing bidders. You don’t want to create a publicly visible listing at all. And certainly not multiple ones.
According to eBay’s rules, it’s not allowed to list an item, even if you only have one of it, in multiple auctions or listings at the same time. But apparently that doesn’t apply to eBay itself when new public listings accessible to everyone are arbitrarily and automatically created from offers only to losing bidders, simply artificially generated, without you wanting that yourself?
What’s that about? Does anyone have an idea why such nonsense from eBay - even against their own guidelines - was automated?

·1 week agoHi @shovelfxb
what you’re describing is quite wild, but it can definitely be backed up with some specific article numbers.
Many thanks and best wishes from the Baltic Sea

Hi Peter
and what if these article numbers don't concern this account?
Or do you see active or sold items here that I maybe can't see?
Best regards from the wild south

OP1 week agoThese two offers were not created by me - with my account rostweg - but by eBay:
https://www.ebay.de/itm/198542438169
https://www.ebay.de/itm/198542438182
And here is the sold offer:
https://www.ebay.de/itm/198523663474
shovelfxb is my account that I actually only use for buying, and rostweg is my selling account. It ended up that way because I originally had a business account and a private account. And eBay explicitly allows having multiple accounts, even as a private person. I specifically asked about that back then, and that still applies today.
With my shovelfxb account, I saw that these incorrectly created offers by eBay are publicly active, which I had sent via my rostweg account ONLY to two losing bidders.

Hi Thomas,
if the item numbers do not concern this account, then the TE will of course not get any information from eBay for data protection reasons.
Best regards from the Baltic Sea

·1 week agoHello Sally,
What don’t I understand? That I ask something and don’t get an answer to it?
If I ask why I have to do this from my “affected” account, when both accounts are mine anyway? Why can’t a community account be enough? Aren’t questions like that allowed?
Don’t get huffy right away. As a moderator, you have to be able to handle critical questions. And if it only works here with over-the-top bureaucracy in a publicly accessible community where everyone can see all these topics anyway, so there can’t be any data protection concerns at all, then yep, I’m happy to do it.
I’ve now, as you requested, posted everything again here through my affected account.
So will eBay address the problem now?
There are two public listings active that I didn’t create and that I didn’t authorize or approve. And if someone gets the idea to buy these listings, then eBay should explain how I’m supposed to deliver something that I only have once, when eBay automatically created two listings against my will.

OP1 week agoThis AI summary is wrong:
Summary: shovelfxb reports a problem on eBay where an offer to two losing bidders is mistakenly posted as a public 'Buy It Now' offer visible to everyone. This does not happen when another eBay account is used instead of the original one. This happens when the original eBay account is used.
This happens when the original eBay account is NOT used. But you only see it when you use a different eBay account than the original one.
If you use the original eBay account, the tab at the top shows that you are seeing an offer to a losing bidder. It does not show that a generally public offer was automatically created and posted online by eBay.
If you use another eBay account, you see that these are generally public offers that anyone can see and buy, which should not be the case. These offers are automatically posted by eBay. Such offers, which were only made to losing bidders, should not be visible publicly at all.
Especially since it also goes against eBay's guidelines to offer an item that exists only once with multiple offers at the same time. But eBay does this with such unwanted, automatically posted offers that the seller themselves did not create.

·1 week agoAgain: if this does not concern this account, nothing can or may be written about it.
And nobody here pays attention to an AI description!

OP1 week agoSo now I have to register again here in the Community using my rustweg account, just to rewrite everything so people are allowed to reply to it? Are you serious? You’re also no longer allowed to point out important errors, and no one is allowed to reply to them, because it concerns my other account and the problem only becomes visible when you’re not using the same account?
You did understand the error, right?
perfect-sally
·1 week agoIt has not yet been said that it is a mistake.
And yes, replies here are only allowed if you write from the account concerned, also so that it can then be checked by eBay if necessary. What would that do for anyone if it doesn’t concern this account and can’t be traced?
I can perhaps still understand from a private seller’s point of view hiding your second, third, or even more accounts here so that the main account you sell with isn’t seen, but that doesn’t achieve anything.
perfect-sally
·1 week agoIn this, your account shows neither active nor sold items, and therefore nothing much can be written here.
shovelfxb
OP1 week agoHello perfect-sally,
what? I didn’t say that it was offered on this, my account. Because I offered it on my eBay account rostweg.
And what again? Nothing can and may be written here, because I use the account here with which I am registered in the community? Do you now have to register in the community with every eBay account you have so that the statistics look nice, so that you’re allowed to post in the community and, as in this case, point out a technical problem?
If it can be taken seriously and objectively with the topic and the brush-off doesn’t start again right away, please look here:
I did not create these two listings - with my account rostweg - but eBay did:
https://www.ebay.de/itm/198542438169
https://www.ebay.de/itm/198542438182
On my account rostweg, I can see that I only sent these listings to the underbidder each time. I also received confirmation of this from eBay by email accordingly. Just as it is described for this function.
So why were these listings automatically posted publicly by eBay as new Buy It Now listings? I only have this camera once. I didn’t want public listings that anyone can see and buy. Then later some random buyers will access both listings and I’m supposed to conjure two out of one camera, or what does eBay think this is supposed to work?
