Please enable error-free entry of the Hermes shipment number
Summary: lidor3073 described a problem with eBay’s automatic detection of shipping carriers, where Hermes tracking numbers are mistakenly recognized as DPD. perfect-sally and chrissi519 confirm the issue and suggest checking the carriers manually. miriam@ebay, an eBay employee, offers to pass the issue along and asks for specific examples to review it. The discussion ends with item numbers being included for investigation by the eBay team.
Good evening,
I’d like to bring up a problem that’s not exactly unknown.
But since it affects not only me but others too, it would be nice if eBay’s tech team could take a look at the following issue.
When tracking numbers are entered for the respective shipping providers, the system PARTIALLY “recognizes” the correct provider. For example, in my case, since I ship either with Hermes or DHL: the system pulls up “DHL Germany” when I enter the tracking number from “Post & DHL”. But as soon as I want to enter the tracking number from the Hermes app, the system consistently pulls up “DPD Germany”. And that doesn’t matter where: whether when shipping or now in the current case, because my Hermes parcel got lost, I had to enter the tracking number and “DPD Germany” appeared again. It’s already happened to me once that I didn’t overwrite it and of course couldn’t update the tracking — which, looking back, means stress again; I don’t even need to list everything, I’m sure everyone knows what pitfalls are lurking.
It would be nice if, like with DHL, you could also make the correct selection here — yes, checking again is still unavoidable, but it would make sense if a technician could optimize the system a bit.
Thank you very much and have a nice evening.

Hello @lidor3073 and thanks for reporting it, and also thanks to everyone for the additional examples 😊.
I’ll pass on the behavior in the automatic assignment of Hermes tracking numbers for review once more. Could you please also tell me one affected article number where Hermes was mistakenly recognized as DPD (and hasn’t been corrected yet)?
Best regards
Miriam

just a quick heads-up:
it happens with all Hermes numbers that are entered from outside. If you create the label directly at Hermes and add the number, DPD is automatically selected, and has been for a long time.

Thanks for the info, @perfect-sally - if you have a specific example for our shipping team so we can visualize the issue that's occurring, that would be helpful.
Best regards

OP1 week agoHello @miriam@ebay
For me it was this morning with item number 407221830392 after entering the Hermes tracking number.
Thank you very much 😊

·1 week ago · EditedAs I said, it affects all items that I ship with Hermes and for which I create the label outside.
Item no.
126219132826
117161749767
and this can go on endlessly like this for all items shipped with Hermes.
lidor3073
OP1 week agoI can confirm that.

·1 week agoGood morning!
eBay is tinkering in too many places and then wonders when things are going wrong everywhere.
What kind of statement is that above? Have the sellers been informed about this?
Or will something only be done once the complaints increase?
I don't understand the world anymore anyway. There's constant new stuff and
what's tried and tested disappears. That will probably never change.
Thank goodness I still have my Pippi Longstocking world.
Today is a beautiful day, enjoy the sun!❤️

Thanks for your message.
I’ve already read that statement elsewhere, but there hasn’t been anything official about it yet. I’d think it would be good if this bug could be fixed - everything else works well too.
I wish you a nice and sunny day. 😊

OP1 week agoGood morning,
Thanks a lot for your replies.
I’d like to add one more note about changing/adding tracking numbers:
I once misjudged the size of the parcel and had to generate a new tracking number accordingly. I then entered it via the browser and first deleted the number that had already been canceled in the Hermes app and overwrote it.
So that works — at least for me.
Still, a small reprogramming in the system would be an advantage.

·1 week agoThe problem has been dragging on for a very long time, but eBay just can't get it right because the tracking numbers from Hermes and DPD are too similar.
You have to pay close attention when entering them and manually change the carrier.
I don't think eBay is going to do much about it, or even can do much about it.

I know that you’re also having trouble with it. But if nobody complains or voices a concern, nothing gets done either - “where there’s no plaintiff, there’s no judge.” If more people here report the same problem, maybe something could be made to happen. Even despite the similarity of the tracking numbers.
I don’t know how it works when you buy shipping labels for Hermes via eBay, since I deliberately don’t use that service: does an incorrect display happen there too?
perfect-sally
·1 week ago · EditedI don't have any difficulty with that since I've known for a long time and just make sure to switch to Hermes. But if you don't know that, it's definitely a disadvantage, and many users also don't know that you can enter another number. In the past, you could edit that at any time too, but that doesn't work anymore either.
I don't think it's the same with the labels through eBay, since the service provider was selected as well and otherwise there would be a lot more complaints about it.

·1 week agoHello @lidor3073 ,
I buy my shipping labels directly through eBay and regularly use Hermes, as well as DHL and Deutsche Post. So far, I haven't had any problems or issues with this at all.
As @perfect-sally already correctly suspected, that's because the shipping provider is selected directly in the system when buying labels through eBay and is therefore automatically assigned correctly.
