I at least expect ebay to make an announcement about what the current status is.

Since 19.06.2026, the withdrawal button (function) is now in effect.
On eBay it is integrated, but whether it has been implemented in compliance with the law is now being questioned by
some lawyers, for example Internetrecht-Rostock
They released an update on 22.06.2026 and wrote the following:
"in coordination with a commercial eBay seller, they made a test purchase on 19.06.2026 to check the implementation of the withdrawal function at eBay.
To put it briefly: the entire withdrawal process does not come close to meeting the requirements of Section 356a BGB.
They are in contact with eBay and have asked eBay to adapt the design to comply with the law."
Why are we commercial sellers actually not even informed by eBay,
that the whole thing might not be legally compliant.
Nothing comes of it, which was also more important at the time: redesigning the community page.
That is already a weak showing, and the private-commercial sellers are all laughing their heads off.

Hello @1a-heizungsshop We understand that the new legal regulation on the electronic cancellation function is raising questions among sellers. eBay interprets the requirements appropriately according to the wording, purpose, and the practical processes in online commerce. In doing so, we also take into account that eBay, as a marketplace, must provide a technical solution for many different sellers and transaction processes. We will continuously review the implementation and interpretation by courts and carefully examine concrete feedback.
If the cancellation function is not shown as expected for a specific order or a confirmation is not received, please send us the order number, screenshots, and the relevant time.
We will be happy to review the case.

·1 month agoIt was obvious, of course, that Ebay would once again not do it the way it was intended and prescribed.
I’ve now seen this button on several merchants/platforms, prominently, on the product page, below all the product details (price, shipping costs, etc:) and not hidden somewhere in a plain list of options for a return and not even a button at all.
What is so hard to understand about the word cancellation button?
What does Ebay do?
Adds the word "withdrawal" to the list of reasons for the return. Bravo, really top-notch stuff.
One can only hope they haven’t bitten off more than they can programmatically handle.
One can also wonder what kind of lawyers Ebay employs when measures by Ebay are regularly classified by lawyers specializing in internet law as insufficient, defective, not implemented in compliance with the law.

yes, the function has been integrated into Ebay since 19/06/2026,
it is just not legally compliant, see internetrecht-rostock.
That means cease-and-desist letters are looming

If someone can’t manage to finish an EU-mandated withdrawal button in time in almost 3 years since the EU decision, there’s no point discussing user-friendliness or legal requirements with them.

Hello @checkymusic actually everything about it is already stated here in the announcement: " New cancellation function on eBay from June 19, 2026 "
There will be no button.
The buyer can click on return item in their purchases / purchase and select cancellation there.
You can also continue to do this via the familiar / old ways. Therefore, all sellers should expand / supplement their texts.

That surprises me a lot, since all the media are talking about how a button MUST be integrated and also be clearly highlighted visually.
So then all the reports in the media or on the internet would be wrong...........

OP1 month agoThis is stated on the official IHK webpage:
Online retailers and online service providers in the B2C sector must in future provide a clearly legible button on their websites labeled “Withdraw contract” or an equivalent wording. In doing so, the requirements for people with disabilities under the Accessibility Enhancement Act and the associated ordinance must also be observed – for example, regarding font size, contrast, or font color.
The button must be easy to find without any trouble and be clearly visible and continuously available throughout the entire withdrawal period
I don't want to make a big deal out of it, but then this is definitely MISINFORMATION from the IHK !!!!!!!!

So is it now the case that there doesn't have to be a button?
By now, I'm (and not just me) simply confused, since everywhere you read that the withdrawal function (button) must be visually highlighted.
