Payout blocked – account review only after the transfer is completed? Has anyone had similar experiences?
Summary: tre-21371 reports a problem that occurred while selling a piano on eBay. Although the buyer had already picked up the piano, an account review was triggered when tre-21371 wanted to have the proceeds paid out to their bank account. This raises the question of why the review did not take place before the transaction was completed. cosmoretroshop suspects that tre-21371's small number of reviews led to the review and advises contacting the buyer to possibly resolve the issue. cosmoretroshop also shares experiences with similar situations and suggests that a buyer review could speed up the solution.
Hello everyone,
I recently sold a piano on eBay. The buyer successfully picked up the piano and the transaction is complete.
It was only when I wanted to have the proceeds paid out to my bank account that I received the message that my account is being reviewed. Up to that point, there had been no indication whatsoever that a review was required.
What I don’t understand is this: Why is the account review only triggered when the seller wants to withdraw their money? Wouldn’t it make more sense to carry out such a review before handing over the item, or at least before completing the transaction?
The buyer has already received the item, I have fulfilled all my obligations as a seller, and now I have to wait for my money even though the sale was completed long ago.
Has anyone of you experienced a similar situation?
How long did your account review take?
Did eBay support explain the reason for the review?
Were you then able to receive the payout without any problems?
I’d be happy to hear about your experiences and thank you for any helpful reply.

I’d be interested to know whether other platforms
also hold back the money to check the seller first.
I always thought that was something you did right at the beginning, before they’re even allowed onto the platform.
It’s a pretty strange practice.

·3 weeks agoThat was the first sale you made, and I only see 11 reviews too. I’m guessing you got caught in an AI check.
Has the buyer already left a review (no) and is there any indication that the piano was picked up and is OK, like the entered pickup code, for example?
Sometimes people bring me things I’ve bought, and the money is sometimes blocked too (2 weeks by default for new sellers). After the handoff I then write the seller an email with something like “everything’s great, thanks for bringing it” and I also leave a review so the money is released quickly.
Maybe you should contact the buyer and explain your problem?:)
