Ebay sales - ad fees, dynamic tariff
Summary: iceborne-gaming inquired about the benefits of choosing dynamic versus fixed advertising fees on eBay, sharing an example of selling a PS3 console. perfect-sally advised against dynamic pricing, stating that sellers should control advertising costs. bixtron warned about potential legal issues with FSK/USK 18 shipments and the risks of linking to external platforms. iceborne-gaming acknowledged the advice and decided to make adjustments to their listings. The discussion also touched on shipping complexities and differences between private and business seller options for handling restricted content.
Hello, can someone here tell me how it works with the listing fees?
How much sense does it make to choose the listing rate as dynamic or fixed?
I trade commercially :)
Example:
PS3 console sold for 190.99 euros incl. shipping EU Croatia :)
All well and good: 190.99 - 11.91 euros (transaction) - 17.49 (shipping) - 28.19 (dynamic listing = 133.40 euros
If I now set the rate to fixed, e.g. 9-10%, will my offers then be shown less often? However, I have to say, if I sell items at night the rate is cheaper too^^
So far it has only applied to 8-12 euro items :P and not to a console, where it would have made sense^^ And I would have saved money too :)
Hope I explained that understandably :)
Best regards
Andreas

·2 weeks agoHello,
I’d leave it alone, otherwise 20% will suddenly be gone.
Another thing: If you don’t want to get a warning and risk a fine of up to €50,000, you should look into USK/FSK 18 shipping... There’s no sending it in a letter, and linking to other platforms in your eBay profile where you sell indexed games is also absolutely not okay.

OP2 weeks agoYeah ok, I forgot about the link.
However, with the FSK18 letter I see almost ALL commercial sellers doing the same... Also, I once called customer support, where it apparently wasn’t a problem, and as mentioned I saw many commercial sellers doing it that way too...
When I sold privately, listing it was generally not possible, there was always a notice...

·2 weeks agoAs soon as eBay catches on to you, those listings will be ended and, if things go really badly, your account will be restricted or suspended!
And what other people are offering shouldn’t concern you; it’s about your listings and your account!
All it takes is for one competitor to report you and bam, the whole drama starts.

OP2 weeks agoI'm working on that right now... Hmmm... Thanks for the heads-up, to be honest I wasn't that aware of it.

OP2 weeks agoI think I’ve gone through them all now. With some, a price suggestion still seems to be on file and can’t currently be changed. I’ll keep an eye on it.
It’s just steep, €8 shipping...For a €6 item...Not everyone will pay that, or hardly anyone. But understandable. I also adjusted my item description accordingly for future changes or relisting with 18+ shipping. Thanks again for the info on this topic...

·2 weeks agoOnly eBay can finally enforce the principle strictly by automatically and compulsorily assigning a USK/FSK18 listing from a private seller exclusively the option "DHL 18+". The seller then has to buy the label through eBay so they don’t send a normal package or a letter, as happens all the time (free DHL 18+ shipping for a €3 item). The only problem is that then nobody will buy the items anymore because they’re too expensive.
With a business account at DHL it’s a bit cheaper...

OP2 weeks agoIs the small parcel only available through a DHL business account? hmmm....I couldn't find it that way either...
bixtron
·2 weeks ago · EditedThe small parcel is only for business customers, yes. But amusingly, it also doesn’t offer an option for age verification... In the past, there even was one for letters - today only for the standard parcel and express.

·2 weeks ago · EditedeBay customer service doesn’t know its own rules, let alone German law. Just get some advice or do your own research - what’s said here on eBay or widely spread around the net is usually complete nonsense.
Like Sally already said, it’s your account and your business... Let the others crash and burn. Test purchases are also carried out, and if you have DHL from 18 listed there but then send it by letter, you can pretty much pack it in right away.. Unfortunately, that’s how it is.

·2 weeks agoIt’s up to each person whether and how they advertise their items. You have to know for yourself what a possibly better visibility is worth to you. But I would NEVER choose dynamic, because then eBay can set the rate however it feels like, and if I’m advertising then I decide as the seller.
However, I have to say, if I sell items at night, the rate is cheaper too
Who told you that?
I’ve never heard that before, but maybe because I don’t leave anything to others and run dynamic ads.
iceborne-gaming
OP2 weeks ago · EditedThe amount was significantly lower than the transaction fee^^
How good is the visibility with fixed or dynamic, hmmm...
perfect-sally
·2 weeks agoA transaction fee is the fee for the sale and is a fixed fee that is incurred with every sale.
You choose the listing fee yourself, ideally. No one can say here how good the visibility is; eBay always says the higher the tariff, the higher the visibility. I've never seen any proof of that, and there probably isn't any.
