eBay shows free shipping even though €6.19 was listed 🤔
Summary: mmstore74 reported an issue with eBay where an auction incorrectly showed free shipping, despite being set to 6.19 euros. lidor3073 and others have experienced similar issues, suggesting a glitch when using the 'sell similar item' feature. grohbacher speculated it could be due to errors in updating shipping settings. miriam@ebay from eBay confirmed that the original item had free shipping, leading to this situation, and advised monitoring the problem. mmstore74 acknowledged the feedback and decided to consider it a one-time loss in their long eBay experience.
Hello everyone,
I have the following problem. I had an auction with a starting price of €5.99, and I had listed shipping costs of €6.99 as an insured package, as in all my auctions.
Now someone has won the item for the starting price of €5.99, I wanted to send an invoice and saw that shipping was free - how is that supposed to work?
What went wrong there? As I already wrote, I specified the shipping in all my auctions, but it is not being displayed there.
I’m now going to be several euros in the red, could an eBay employee please take a look at this, and would someone please be so kind and tag someone who is available?
Many thanks in advance and have a nice weekend everyone
Marc

OP3 weeks agoHello @miriam@ebay and thanks a lot for your feedback.I’ll keep an eye on it and tick it off as my first loss-making deal in my 19-year eBay career 🤣.

That’s happened to me a few times too,
always the same routine tasks, so you do overlook something now and then,
I guess that’s what you call being too used to the job.

Hello @mmstore74 - great to see that you already got such good help here over the weekend in figuring out the cause 😊.
I also looked into it. The item was listed via Sell similar item from item 227505613545. This original listing had free shipping set, and that was also carried over to the new listing.
For your specific case, at this point I can no longer see any subsequent change to the shipping costs. We’ll be happy to keep an eye on the additional experiences you described here, though.
Best regards
Miriam

OP3 weeks agoGood morning @miriam@ebay can you help me with that once, or could someone please tag an Ebay employee for me?
Many thanks in advance

OP3 weeks agoHello Manfred @grohbacher ,it said 6.99 euros, like with the others too.

OP3 weeks agoHello Peter @p-schauberger
that has nothing to do with it.
If I post an item where the 6,99 €uro is specified and I then sell a similar item, should those be kept or not?
Kind regards
Marc

·3 weeks ago · EditedIt's the same drama as with the location. Only shipping is easier to control 😁

·3 weeks ago · EditedThe problem happens regularly for me too: I change the shipping conditions for a current item. Then I list a similar item through that item. For the new item, the original shipping conditions are then used (not the changed ones). I reported that once too ;-)

for your reply. As written, I can only speculate about the cause of the false display. The same careless mistake could of course also happen when using the wrong template.
However, it doesn’t matter when the auctions expire, but at what time they were posted. If a (possibly staggered) start-time schedule was used, it’s no longer possible to tell when these auctions were prepared.
What’s strange is that the same item, which this is probably about, you have already offered at least once as an auction. The last auction for it had expired on 21/08/2026. There, all the details, photos, starting price, and description were identical to the current auction; the only exception was that shipping costs were specified back then. When posting with "Sell similar item" for the expired auction, nothing should actually have been able to go wrong.
One more thought:
You definitely have conditions. As a precaution, check which condition had been assigned to the problematic auction; and what it included. Check with
"Sell similar item".

OP3 weeks agoGood morning Manfred @grohbacher
I have 2 templates, one for fixed prices and one for auctions.
The other auctions that were simultaneous +2 minutes all had shipping costs included, only this one didn’t, and if your idea were true (which wouldn’t be entirely wrong), then the others that ended at the same time should all have been free too.
Now @perfect-sally also pointed out to me that there was still one item (auction) with free shipping, even though there were several auctions ending at the same time + 2 minutes there too, and all of them had left the shipping costs behind, except again just one.
So, if I use the template for auctions where the shipping costs were specified and then I list an "similar item for sale" from there, then the shipping costs should also be carried over, but they weren’t for 2 items, as was similarly confirmed by @lidor3073 .

·3 weeks ago · Edited@mmstore74 good morning, Marc
In addition, I'd like to add that I only list auctions via "similar items" - that works, with a few exceptions. If I list an item completely new, it glitches as described above. I go through the app (I don't have a PC available all the time) and the listing tool with AI, which you can't turn off anyway, is annoying, and I have to correct a lot more than without the AI.

·3 weeks ago · EditedHey Marc @mmstore74 ,
take a look at your settings. There you can see the shipping methods and check them. Just change what doesn’t fit.
Best, Peter

·3 weeks agoHello @mmstore74
I, as a "small fry," have an idea of how this problem could have happened.
You also have many fixed-price offers that show free shipping.
If, on one of these offers, you click "Sell similar item," you can change everything, including the listing format. In the process, it could happen that the shipping cost information is accidentally not changed. And, boom, you end up with an auction listing with free shipping.
It's all just speculation.
Best,
Manfred

·3 weeks ago · EditedGood evening Marc,
I have the same problem when I offer two different shipping providers, the second one is DHL 6.19 euros and I always have to go into the shipping costs once and, for the 6.19 euros, delete the 9 and add it again, only THEN does the system accept it - otherwise it stays on FREE shipping! I reported this a while ago already, but I didn’t get any help or info from eBay.
I had the phenomenon again today! 🙄
