Unfortunately, this is an event that keeps happening again and again. It’s not even supposed to be about my individual case. Many of you are certainly familiar with this process created by eBay all too well. In the present case, the delivered goods do not meet the buyer’s expectations regarding the thickness (10mm) of an ordered bracelet, and she is requesting a return. I automatically approve this request and a few days later I receive the goods back in full and undamaged, along with a corresponding letter explaining the buyer’s reasons for the return. Right after that, I initiate the refund with the comment to the buyer "We have received the bracelet back and are processing the reversal." and everything is fine.Until this point, a completely normal reversal. Think again — a few days later I now receive the defect entry for this transaction: "You initiated a refund for this transaction because the item was no longer in stock". I suspect that eBay’s process generated this defect entry because there was no tracking number (the shipping method was a letter posted by me with postage affixed). And please, no discussion now about the pros and cons of insured shipping with tracking, which addresses the symptom but not the cause. I’m also not looking for eBay to help me in this individual case. I merely want to use this example to point out how erroneous defect entries, caused by incomplete rather than comprehensive process flows, arise through eBay’s intervention and can potentially have significant effects on a person’s future sales.
