Principle on product safety leads to blocking childproof items
Summary: The discussion revolves around the topic of product safety and the resulting blocking of child-resistant items. Several participants express concerns regarding the practices mentioned and possible consequences for users. Possible solutions and the need for clarification are discussed in order to ensure the safety of the items.
Hello everyone,
we are absolutely desperate. 3 table fireplace products with safety fuel (without ethanol) have been removed from sale for over 3 weeks due to an ebay suspension. The reason: This listing was removed because it violates our product safety policy.
We believe that on eBay, exactly the opposite of the product safety policy is being carried out. All FEUERGLASKLAR products are operated without dangerous ethanol. They are child-safe and if they tip over accidentally, the fire goes out. Not so with table fireplaces that are operated with ethanol. If they tip over accidentally, the entire table burns. However, such table fireplaces are being offered on eBay in huge numbers. The consumer advice center expressly warns against using dangerous ethanol in table fireplace systems.
Several such sellers were reported to eBay for violating product safety. So far, nothing has been done about it - no suspensions. Apparently, eBay wants table fireplaces with ethanol - although extremely dangerous - to continue being allowed to be offered via eBay.
No one, mostly foreign advisors, can name a logical reason why our child-safe products, which are operated without dangerous ethanol, pose a safety risk.
We also find it harmful to our business that products are deactivated without explicit notice to the seller.
Has anyone of you had similar experiences, or found a quick solution to the problem?

·2 months agoHello @feuerglasklar.
We understand that the situation is not satisfactory for you. However, please note that offers are evaluated automatically as part of our product safety checks and based on various criteria. This is not solely about ethanol itself, but about the general classification of the product and possible safety risks.
The fact that similar offers are still visible does not automatically mean that they comply with the guidelines or have not already been reviewed.
If you believe that your offers were removed by mistake, we still recommend requesting a review through an appeal by email to the relevant specialist department. Thank you very much for your cooperation and happy Pentecost.
@voli-maus Thanks for the mention.
Best regards
Melina

·2 months agoHello Melina,
thanks for the tip, but unfortunately the "Appeal" buttons are disabled for all products. So how do you imagine this appeal would work? We have already had long phone calls 3 times. I honestly don't understand how your automated product safety checks throw out totally safe products and dangerous products are still allowed to be offered. Why on earth sales are restricted with such bans first needs to be understood. A nice example of how AI can destroy our perfect world if it is properly configured by incompetent people.

·2 months agoHello @feuerglasklar
I’m just seeing another listing from you with one of those table fires.
Unfortunately, I don’t know how the deleted listings differed from it.
The listing images show a bottle. There is no safety data sheet to be found for the contents.
No warning notice at the bottom.
Even assuming the bottle has a safety closure, I don’t see any childproof lock on the pourer being advertised.
I could imagine that this together could also be a reason for deletions.

Thanks for your statement.
The fuel is not subject to labeling requirements, so it also does not require a safety data sheet. It is so safe that you could even drink it. It just doesn't taste that good. Childproofing is more about the fact that if it tips over, it doesn't lead to a disaster - the fire goes out. Only if fire in any form were fundamentally to violate the safety regulations would that really be necessary for the ethanol table fires.
Unfortunately I can't add a PDF. I've uploaded an excerpt from the user manual here. On our website you can download the complete manual in the download section.

·2 months agoHello @feuerglasklar ,
the lovely @melina@ebay will take a look at this.
Did you know that, as a business seller, you have to accept returns?
