Return without reason??
Summary: petersmodellbahnstuebchen discusses a situation where a buyer initiated a return without specifying a reason, suspecting it might be related to a new 'revoke button' feature. lotusgaarden raises a question about how such returns affect seller status, to which petersmodellbahnstuebchen responds that consumer rights should prevent negative impacts on sellers. deichchef clarifies that no reason is needed for revocations, and petersmodellbahnstuebchen seeks confirmation on the process from eBay. Other participants share similar experiences and seek clarity on handling returns with possible damages or exchanges, concluding that a buyer has returned an item through Hermes. The conversation reflects concerns about eBay's handling of returns and the implications of new policies on sellers.
Hi everyone,
today a buyer opened a return, but no return reason is stored, return number 5326121190
Could it be that this is a cancellation based on the new "cancel" button? If so, this should also be labeled as a cancellation.
The buyer has already entered a tracking number.
Has anyone of you already had similar experiences?
Maybe the lovely @samantha@ebay has more info too, thanks Samantha. ❤️

·5 days agoHello @e petersmodellbahnstuebchen
I only had a case like that with us yesterday, like with you! Out of the blue, the return arrived with us via a notification from E Bay, and the customer has already entered a return number from the parcel service provider. But aren't you only informed by E Bay after a return notification? Well, when the goods are back with us and everything is OK, the customer gets a refund from us.
Best regards from the southwest

·5 days agoHello @petersmodellbahnstuebchen , many thanks for your post. Here, your buyer has opened a return with the cancellation reason "withdrawal from the purchase contract" and sent the item back to you via Hermes. He also included the tracking number in the return request, and he already dropped off the package yesterday at a Hermes parcel shop.
Kind regards
Elke

Basically, the legislator has created conditions that are sometimes "unsatisfactory" for all sellers.
What’s unclear, at least to me, is how you can respond to a cancellation if an item has been exchanged or damaged by a buyer.
When it comes to a cancellation, is the "case" then automatically closed, or do you have options to object or a chance to have your say?
Another question from me ... Are the return shipping costs now automatically passed on to the seller?

OP6 days agoHello @deichchef
That’s clear enough.
However, first I’d like to know from Ebay whether this is really a cancellation and why it’s being listed as a return. Because those are, after all, two different processes.

·6 days agoHello Peter , to your question I can only add another question. How will returns without a reason affect seller status?

Hi Andreas,
interesting question. In my opinion, this shouldn’t have any effect on seller status or seller statistics. After all, a cancellation (if it really is one) is a consumer right and cannot and must not be restricted by the seller.
Unless Ebay has messed up the function so much with the introduction of the "cancellation button" that it is now treated like a normal return. I wouldn’t be surprised, though. 😉
Best wishes from the Baltic Sea
