Return of an item - customer wants QR code
Summary: outletgalaxie discusses an issue with a customer who ordered a WMF Wiegemesser and requested a return, claiming the item was not as described but provided no evidence. The customer insists on a QR code for the return label, threatens to involve eBay, and demands reimbursement of return costs. outletgalaxie provided a shipping label, but the customer contacted eBay for the QR code. Other participants advise on how to handle such situations, discuss potential misuse of the return process, and suggest escalating the issue or adding the customer to a block list. elke@ebay confirms that if the item is not returned within 10 days, no refund will be given and no QR code is provided.
Good day,
a customer ordered a WMF carving knife (new). Now he has initiated a return:
Reason for return
"Not as described/picturedNot as described/pictured"
No images provided.
When I asked what exactly was wrong with the product, he replied:
"Hello, I am canceling my item regardless of the reason. Either you pay the return shipping costs via a QR code provided for a return, or eBay. If you refuse to cover these return shipping costs, I will contact eBay and clarify this through eBay support. Please give me a brief response."
We accepted the return and provided a DHL label.
He has now contacted eBay because he wants a QR code.
What now?

·1 week agoMy block list still has some room left until the 5,000 limit.
Please share the eBay name of this A-customer.
Oh no, that won’t work, eBay might still be able to make money off him....
When I think of eBay at night, I lose sleep.

·2 weeks agoHello @outletgalaxie , thank you very much for your post. If your buyer does not return the item within 10 business days, the case will be closed without a refund. We cannot provide a QR code here. Alternatively, the buyer can purchase one directly from the shipping provider.
@petersmodellbahnstuebchen thank you very much for your mention.
Best regards

·2 weeks agoHello,
isn't the abuse obvious here?
"Hello, I am revoking my item regardless of the reason..."
"Either you pay the return shipping costs through a provided QR code for a return or eBay."
"or eBay"? After the following coercion, the buyer couldn't make their abuse any clearer...

·2 weeks ago · EditedHello,
File a report for extortion. eBay will decide in favor of the buyer - you should then deduct 50% from the refund afterward.

What a cheeky person. eBay really should crack down harder on that. That's basically extortion.
If possible, have eBay reimburse you for the shipping costs through the buyer.
You don't want to do business with someone like that.
Have a nice rest of the weekend!

Hi Elke,
could you take a look here too? Thanks ❤️
It just can’t be the case that a buyer withdraws and then makes a big fuss about the return.
Best regards from the Baltic Sea

·2 weeks agoDo you have free return shipping?
If not, I’d deduct it from him / charge him for it, and if necessary take him to court.
What an outrageously cheeky jerk.
In writing, you do have that it’s actually a withdrawal and that he’s just abusing the eBay return process so that he doesn’t have to pay anything.
And make sure to save this correspondence nicely.
