Disappointing eBay customer service – specific questions are repeatedly left unanswered

I’d like to share my current experience with eBay customer service here, because I now honestly find the way my issue has been handled really disappointing. It all started with a simple goodwill request regarding an eBay Plus voucher worth €10. The voucher was used for a purchase, the item was then returned, and the voucher was not credited back. I am well aware that, according to the terms, vouchers may not have to be refunded. That is exactly why I had explicitly asked for a goodwill review. After the first agent declined this, I explicitly asked for my issue to be forwarded to a higher responsible department or a complaints department. That was not addressed at all. I then explicitly pointed out again that my actual question had not been answered and asked once more for it to be forwarded. The next reply again only addressed the fact that no voucher could be issued. My specific request for escalation or forwarding was again not answered. That is exactly what I find problematic. At this point it is less about the €10 and more about the way the communication is handled. From my point of view, specific questions are being deliberately sidestepped, explicit requests are not being addressed, and instead you keep getting essentially the same standard reply over and over again. If an employee themselves has no way to make a goodwill decision, that is completely fine with me. But then I would at least expect that an explicitly requested forwarding to the responsible department is reviewed or that it is explained in a way that makes sense why this supposedly isn’t possible. Has anyone had similar experiences? Is there even still a way at eBay to have an issue actually forwarded to a complaints department or a higher support level?

Voucher "MOTORS26" expired early (11:20 PM instead of 11:59 PM) – system error?

Hello everyone, The voucher "MOTORS26" was supposed to be valid until 23/09/2026 at 11:59 p.m. according to the terms and conditions (see promo page ). At around 11:20 p.m., the 10% discount was still being shown normally on the item pages. When I wanted to complete the purchase a few minutes later, the voucher suddenly became invalid and the note on the item pages had disappeared — so more than 35 minutes too early. That is extremely frustrating for me: I wanted to buy two more expensive items, and in total I missed out on a discount of €80 (about ~€35 on one and about ~€45 on the other). My attempt to reach support last night failed because of the chatbot and the service hours. I called today, but after some negotiation they could/would only offer me a 30-euro voucher as a goodwill gesture. When I asked about a 10% replacement voucher (for two items), that wasn’t addressed. However, with a difference of €50, that is not an acceptable solution for me for an error that was on the system side. Did any of you have similar experiences with the code last night? And is there a way to escalate the case to a higher specialist department at eBay? Thanks a lot for your feedback! Best, Stefan

How €50 vanished into system nirvana (and support just hung up)

Hello everyone, I’d really appreciate your advice or the support of an eBay employee from the community, since I’m not getting anywhere by phone. The case: Order date: 11 August (order number: 05-15025-83512 ) Item: Waterdrop reverse osmosis system (value: €217.65) Payment: €51.80 redeemed with a voucher , the rest (€207.20) paid via PayPal. Cancellation: The seller cancelled the purchase shortly after the order was received, saying the item was out of stock. Problem: The PayPal payment was refunded properly – but the voucher worth €51.80 has completely disappeared and can no longer be redeemed. The item is now back in stock with the same seller. Experience with customer service: During today’s call, the agent asked me to wait on the line while they sorted out the issue – and then hung up on me shortly after. My questions for you: How likely is it that the system will automatically reactivate the voucher after a few days, or does this absolutely have to be done manually by an employee? Which contact method (e.g. chat, callback, social media team) is the most reliable way to reach someone who has the authority to issue a replacement voucher code? Thanks for any help and for sharing your experience!

    Scammers on eBay

Hello, there’s a private seller on eBay offering Amazon vouchers, but he sends empty envelopes. He’s already received negative feedback about this, but he still keeps selling Amazon vouchers anyway. What makes the whole thing fraudulent now is that in the AUCTION TEXT he asks for an instant bank transfer, so completely outside eBay’s payment system and buyer protection. I’ve already reported this listing to eBay several times, but eBay always just says “does not violate our policies.” How on earth can that be?

Satire or support? How eBay delights a premium member (since 2008) with real-life satire 🎭

Hello dear community, today I just have to give a big shoutout to the eBay support team. Who needs Netflix when you’ve got a ticket open with customer service? The entertainment value is absolutely first-class! A quick bit of background to the comedy (ticket: SR# 1-507365122689): I’ve been a member since early 2008, have been an eBay Plus member from day one without interruption, and have over 950 positive reviews. In short: I actually like the platform. On 24/07, I’m interested in a Samsung QLED TV (B-stock) for EUR 599.00. Right on the price details on the item page, the voucher code YDEFSI2SYBPCNKCM worth EUR 50.00 is shown to me and live deducted from the item price. In this official promo window, there are absolutely no restrictions or hints at a specific payment method (see upper part in the attached combined image) . As it turns out, this is a personalized discount promotion to which eBay specially and exclusively invited me as a loyal customer (see lower part in the combined image) . Motivated by this tailored discount, I use the option on the item page and submit a price proposal of EUR 580.00. The seller accepts – and that legally binds me to the purchase contract. The simple math of the case: Accepted price proposal: EUR 580.00 Minus the promised voucher: - EUR 50.00 Legitimate final price: EUR 530.00 After the click, the big wake-up call at checkout: the system suddenly demands the full amount of EUR 580.00 and withholds the discount. Only now, in the voucher overview under “My eBay,” does the addition “when paying with Klarna” suddenly appear (see middle part in the combined image) . Before that, at the crucial moment of the purchase decision and right on the item page, this was completely concealed! To avoid jeopardizing my spotless account with an unpaid item, I had to reluctantly pay the full amount via PayPal. But now comes the real jackpot – the support team’s written performance: Act 1 (employee L...): Coldly states in writing that the voucher expired on 28/07 at 09:00 a.m. (Too bad my evidence image clearly shows that it was valid all day until 28/07/26). Act 2 (employee A... M...): Enters the stage and strongly contradicts his colleague in writing on the same day: “The voucher is still valid and redeemable until 11:59:59 p.m.!” – Brilliant advice for a purchase that was completed 4 days ago. A time machine, unfortunately, is not included. Act 3 (employee B... I...): The blame shift. I simply shouldn’t have completed the purchase if it didn’t work. Right, I should have just broken the legally binding contract after the price proposal and risked my spotless account. My mistake! Act 4 (employee A...): The rescue attempt. He absolutely wants to call me (nothing written anymore!) and, as sensational help, sends me a link to... drumroll... “Selling limits for commercial sellers” . Sure, as a private buyer of a TV, those exact limits are what keep me up at night! I have now written to support on 29/07 that I greatly appreciate this comedic interlude, but that I will continue the communication in writing only for evidence preservation purposes and refuse phone calls. The formal complaint is now with management. The deadline for compensation (EUR 50 credit or a universal replacement voucher) is unquestionably running until 04/08/2026 . If eBay lets the deadline pass, the whole thing sadly loses its humor: then this seamless real-life satire goes straight to the Wettbewerbszentrale as an evidence file (keyword: misleading pricing / misleading advertising under PAngV & § 5 UWG). The TV will be revoked (which means the seller commission is gone) and my eBay Plus membership will be terminated without notice. Question for you: Has anyone ever experienced conditions like a “Klarna requirement” being withheld in exclusive invitation promotions in the item’s price details and only shown after the binding purchase has been completed via price suggestion? And to the eBay moderators reading along: do you internally find this support theater just as funny as I do, or will someone with real review competence take pity and manually credit me the 50 euros I’m entitled to? Best regards!

Discounts / vouchers and price suggestions?

Hello, I’m interested in a (used) item from a private seller, on whose page a 10% coupon / discount (?) was listed (which according to the fine print should have been valid until the end of the year, but now has disappeared?). My actual question was: does the coupon/discount also apply if I make the seller a price offer?? it is IMPOSSIBLE to find anything about this on the help pages or to squeeze an answer out of the chatbot. Or to get the bot to connect me with a staff member. (also I’m wondering now: where did the coupon suddenly go, if according to the fine print it can be used until the end of the year??) Best wishes and thanks in advance.
