Images are not being adopted: 38% of our brake pads show the placeholder image in search, brake discs only 8.5%
Summary: connectcarparts, a commercial seller from the Netherlands, reports problems with images that are sent to eBay via an API. For their brake pads and brake calipers, placeholder images appear in search, while they are displayed correctly on the item page. The share of such cases has increased significantly in a week, and they are asking about experiences and solutions, especially whether uploading the images directly to eBay could help.
Hello everyone,
we are a commercial seller from the Netherlands (brake parts, shipping only from NL to DE). Our listings and images come via API through Channable.
For a large portion of our brake pads and brake calipers, eBay is not taking over the images. In search, the eBay placeholder image appears, but on the item page the same images are displayed correctly.
As of 30/09, counted in search for our listings:
Brake pads: 37.9% with placeholder image
Brake calipers: 33.6%
Brake discs: 8.5%
On 24/09, the share for brake pads and brake calipers was still 11.7%. In a sample, 3 out of 10 listings that had eBay-hosted images on 24/09 no longer had any after an image update. The brake discs are newly listed and are running almost flawlessly.
We checked: All image URLs respond with HTTP 200, deliver JPEG or PNG, and have at least 500 pixels on the longest side (except for one brake disc image). The main images for the brake pads and brake calipers are PNGs with 1600 x 1600 pixels and up to 1.6 MB.
Our questions:
Has anyone encountered the problem that eBay does not accept images submitted via API? What was the cause for you?
How do you trigger the image import for existing listings again without ending them?
Does anyone upload their images to eBay in advance themselves and then only pass along the eBay URLs? Has that helped?
Thanks for your experiences.
