11% listing fee for private sale – credit requested 48 hours ago
Summary: kisch_bln reported being charged an unexpected 11% advertising fee on a private sale despite not opting for such an advertisement. They contacted eBay's customer service multiple times and were assured of a refund within 48 hours, which had not occurred. kometenhuhn suggested the issue might be due to default settings but kisch_bln confirmed no such preset was in place. petersmodellbahnstuebchen attempted to escalate the issue by mentioning an eBay employee in the discussion to seek further assistance.
Hello,
for a private sale, I was charged just under €100 or 11% listing fee. I did not create an ad for this item.
I have already clarified the issue several times by phone with eBay customer service. An employee reviewed the case two days ago and requested a credit note. I was expressly told that this should be done within a maximum of 48 hours.
Those 48 hours have now passed. During my contact today, I was only told that the credit note had been requested, but that it could still take another 2–3 days.
Since I have to ship the item today and the buyer is already waiting for their goods, I do not want to have to explain the entire issue from the beginning again.
Could an eBay employee perhaps review the existing credit request and let me know whether it is actually being processed or when I can expect the credit?
I can of course send a case number to an eBay employee by PM.
Thank you!

·2 weeks agoHello @kisch_bln ,
thanks for your message.
The colleague who submitted the credit request will also receive feedback on whether it was approved or not. It can also take a few days before an update comes through.
So I’d ask you to bear with us a little longer.
@petersmodellbahnstuebchen thanks <3
Best regards
Anna

·3 weeks agoWon't happen at all, in my opinion.
The ad fees are partially pre-set and have to be removed manually before the listing is made active - as I've read here quite often (I can't judge that myself)

OP2 weeks agoThanks for your reply. I can actually rule out exactly that in my case. Yesterday I posted another listing and paid very close attention to this - there was no preselected ad option. Since I’ve been on eBay for about 25 years and sometimes use ads on my business eBay account myself, I know how to activate them and also deactivate them again. That’s why I’m sure I would have noticed such a setting on my private listing.
That’s why I also want to know specifically from eBay when and how this 11% ad was supposed to have been activated on my listing. Customer service has now submitted a credit request. Unfortunately, though, the response did not come within 48 hours, as announced in the email.

·2 weeks agoThe problem seems to be that this is not always preset, but only occasionally. At least that’s what some of the users here in the community are reporting. There doesn’t seem to be any automation there.
Unfortunately, phone support is not very reliable, and that’s really putting it very mildly.
If necessary, someone can tag an eBay employee who can tell you more precisely

OP2 weeks agoThanks. I also hope that maybe an eBay employee will chime in and take a closer look at the case.
