I've been reading along in the forum for quite a while now and would just like to take this opportunity to thank the experienced members and mentors.
It's really helpful how matter-of-factly it's regularly pointed out here that before making a sale, you should also take a look at a potential buyer's given ratings. Thanks to this educational work, especially as a private seller you learn very well how to spot unfair expectations or unnecessary trouble early on. That's real support, and I just wanted to say a quick thank you for it.
Based on this topic, I'd be interested in your practical experience:
Do you now also use the buyer blocklist purely preventively? So that you put bidders or buyers who stand out to you because of a very negative or destructive rating profile with others straight onto the blocklist, before a purchase even happens? Has this forward-looking strategy already saved you from problems in everyday selling? As for me personally, I actively do this after reading the relevant tip here: I look at the ratings left, and if I feel uneasy while reading them, the user is blocked immediately.
I look forward to a factual exchange and your opinions on this.

as @perfect-sally already wrote, I also use the block list purely as a precaution when users stand out negatively to me both here in the forum and while browsing interesting articles (through their rating profile). I’m well aware that this can also cost me sales.
But if I can exclude even just one bad apple that way, I’ve already saved myself a lot of hassle and unnecessary effort. And that’s personally worth more to me than a few extra euros in sales.
And if a user should feel disadvantaged by that, they still have various ways to contact me and clear up a misunderstanding.
However, experience has taught me not to lift such blocks too hastily.

Definitely! Some users on the forum alone go straight onto the block list, and certainly not just me ;)
Has this forward-looking strategy already saved you from problems in your day-to-day selling?
It’s not really possible to answer that, since these users can’t buy anyway, but I do believe in it.
And I’ll definitely keep it that way, because you can really do without buyers like that. If I can avoid it, I also don’t sell to interested buyers who have set their feedback profile to private - if someone like that buys directly, well, too bad. But if a PV comes in, it gets rejected and the block list gets fed.

OP2 weeks agoThese are pure buyers. We as sellers have to keep the profile open and transparent.
They just don’t want to reveal WHAT they’re buying. Beate Uhse items probably don’t look so good either. 😉
But how can I actively prevent that if someone like that bids on mine? 🤔 I can’t just delete bids, can I?

·2 weeks agoWhen I was still doing auctions, I still put them on the blocked list because they might not necessarily be the highest bidder, and if they’re on the list, they can’t place any more bids.
I’m not interested in seeing what buyers had bought either; I’ve never looked at that. I only look for green, gray, or red dots and read the reviews for the last two.

OP2 weeks agoThat’s what it’s about for me too. Buyers who have set their profile to private just don’t want to show what they buy.
Okay, then I’ll put the potential buyer without public reviews on the list.
You’ve probably noticed: I haven’t given a negative review yet. Not even a neutral one. I actually think those are the worst, because for me they represent an unclear state.
