Submit tax information
Hello, I have already been asked multiple times by Ebay to provide my tax ID, with the note that sanctions may apply.
The number of my sales is under 30 and my revenue is under 2000.- euros. I did not count a canceled sale as revenue here.
Is Ebay “asking” me to provide my tax ID as a precaution? I do not intend to exceed the thresholds. Thanks everyone!

·1 month ago · EditedEven if the data is transmitted to the tax office, what should happen? They’re usually running at full tilt in terms of capacity. Unless someone is repeatedly selling new goods from the same product range - in larger quantities - it’s completely irrelevant there.
Whenever the tax office is mentioned, everyone immediately perks up, but anyone can sell their private items without any problem. 30 items are reached pretty quickly anyway. The threshold of 2k is also easy to hit if you sell a smartphone, maybe a video game console, and a camera. Things that are found in many households. Although I can understand that nobody really wants to make themselves “transparent.” :)

Hello @wohinmitmutti and thanks for your question! Entering your tax ID with eBay does not automatically mean that you are liable to tax or that a report is made to the tax authorities.
For cancelled sales or refunds, it can take some time before these are taken into account in the DAC7 review. That’s why the request to enter it may continue to appear at first. If, after the review, you are below the statutory reporting thresholds, no corresponding report will be made.
We recommend entering your tax ID to avoid possible restrictions when selling. If you’re unsure, you can find more information at eBay.de/DAC7 and there you can also arrange a free online consultation appointment with our partner.
Kind regards
Miriam

·1 month agoWhat might be decisive is whether eBay has already booked/removed this revenue that was not actually earned.
It was often read here that such requests are sent out when the threshold is close to being reached (number and/or amount €). In the case of actual exceeding, anyway, or presumably the sale proceeds are then withheld until the tax ID is provided and/or further listings are no longer possible.
To make sure case 2 doesn’t happen in the first place, many simply stopped selling immediately and only resumed in the following year.
The notice alone therefore (presumably) does not result in a block and eventually sorts itself out more or less on its own. But wanting to sell something now would of course be pretty pointless. The proceeds would almost certainly not reach you without a tax ID.

·1 month agoIf you have already reached a certain number, eBay requires this information. eBay cannot know or guess whether someone plans to exceed the threshold or not.
