I’ve just listed two items and I need to vent my frustration here about the revamped listing tool for private sellers. The previous listing menu was far better by a mile, easier to navigate, and simply worked without errors. The new tool is a huge step backward.
1. Hidden costs when listing (promoting)
The first thing I really have to criticize: when listing, you’re basically pushed into promoting your item for a fee. The option is placed extremely prominently in blue as the main button. If you’re not paying attention for a moment right before listing and miss it, you list it as an ad and eBay ends up taking a hefty percentage of the proceeds. That’s pure deception of users!
2. Faulty AI coercion for item data
They’re trying to force everything through AI. The result? Errors are happening everywhere! You constantly have to manually correct and improve everything because the automatic recognitions and suggestions simply don’t fit the item. That doesn’t save time, it costs twice as much nerve.
3. Complete block on Hermes shipping options
To make matters worse, the system gets stuck on shipping. When listing completely normal items, the standard Hermes parcel classes (like M or L) are no longer offered to me at all under additional services. Instead, the system forces the “Hermes Business-Paket,” where you have to enter the costs manually.
I’ve already disabled all conditions, deleted the service, and tried it both in the app and in the PC browser: at this point, a complete list of all shipping providers simply no longer opens. In the finished listing, the buyer then sees the completely unsuitable “Hermes Business-Paket,” which totally confuses and makes private buyers suspicious, even though I only want to show the correct online price of €6.99 for an M parcel.
Dear eBay team, the new tool is an outrage. Please bring back the old, working listing menu or fix these faulty automations!
Has anyone else had these experiences?

·1 month agoWhat I find very surprising is, why do you as a private seller have the option to choose a DHL small parcel or Hermes Business package? As far as I know, only business customers with a certain number of parcels per year can select that.

Even though they are different sales formats, eBay still doesn't adapt it - it's just too much effort. It annoys me too that right now I have a choice that is of no use to me. And not the one I need.

OP1 month agoHere is the condensed selection of shipping providers, I had selected DHL parcel up to 5 kg and wanted to specify a second alternative (Hermes M parcel). Couldn’t find it.

I just tested it myself, in the browser (eBay.de) on my smartphone, all options (like Hermes) are shown to me in the list without any problems.
Hermes is also displayed normally in the app.
Have you already tried typing "Hermes" directly into the search bar at the very top of the shipping selection?

I use a different "device" to list items.
On a laptop, for example, the view is completely different.

Unfortunately, I don't always have the option of using a laptop. The browser view on a phone is the desktop site. Not everyone has that luxury.

I only entered book in the headline, category Books.
“This beautiful book will delight you and captivate you and draw you in and you will have a lot of fun with it” etcetera etcetera
Yes, then it also says something about promoting
“Highly competitive category
50% of the articles in Books are currently being promoted.”
