Problems canceling a purchase after it has been marked as shipped
Summary: retrobs_vintage recently sold an item and created a shipping label immediately after the buyer paid. However, the buyer asked to cancel, which was automatically declined because the shipping process had already started. retrobs_vintage is now looking for advice on how to still cancel the purchase by mutual agreement with the buyer. perfect-sally comments that canceling after shipping is difficult and suggests contacting an eBay representative.
I recently sold an item and the buyer paid immediately. To make shipping go smoothly, I promptly created a shipping label and the item was then marked as "shipped". However, while I was buying the shipping label, the buyer requested a cancellation, which Ebay then automatically rejected with the note that I, the seller, had already shipped the item.
If I had known that the buyer wanted to back out of the purchase, I would have complied with their request. I’m now getting the message that the purchase can no longer be canceled because the shipping process has been initiated. What steps can I take to still cancel the purchase by agreement with the buyer? Has anyone had similar experiences and can share advice?

·Jul 14, 2026 at 4:38 PM@retrobs_vintage Hey. 🙂 You could alternatively also initiate a refund directly to your buyer. This will then automatically cancel the purchase. To do this, go to the purchase details > More actions > Send refund.

·Jul 14, 2026 at 3:57 PMWhat steps then? Once it's been shipped or marked as shipped, the deal is done and you actually have to ship if you don't want any more problems, like the buyer refusing acceptance or reporting an item as not received.
Please give the item number, maybe an eBay employee can step in and help you.
