Buyer requests a change of shipping method after payment, DHL instead of Hermes
Summary: felsenschulter describes a situation in which buyers want to change the shipping method after payment. perfect-sally replies that no changes are possible after payment, but there would be no negative consequences from eBay if you comply with the request. lidor3073 recommends cancelling the purchase to avoid differences in shipping costs and emphasizes that buyers are bound to their original selection. grohbacher suggests that buyers could pay the difference through other payment methods. lidor3073 sees this as a possible new tactic for reducing costs and points to the contestability of negative feedback in such cases.
Hello!
In the last few weeks, I’ve had it happen 3 times that after paying, buyers asked me to ship with DHL instead of Hermes, even though they really could have selected that themselves before paying. Is there a way for buyers to change the preferred shipping service after payment? I’m guessing not, because that would lead to overlaps and additional payments. But if I were to comply with such a request now and then enter a DHL tracking number on eBay, would I have to expect negative consequences from eBay?
Best regards

·1 month agoI would recommend that you cancel the purchase, since you offer Hermes and DHL shipping options at checkout: it’s clearly the buyer who wants to save on shipping costs here - as is well known, DHL is more expensive than Hermes for 2 kg and 5 kg parcels. At least for private sellers; commercial sellers with - I remember DHL stating - a minimum purchase volume of small parcels of xxx parcels per year - get special terms from DHL. I don’t know how it works for commercial sellers with Hermes.
I would also cancel it for that reason, because the dimensions for Hermes/DHL are often not compatible and you explicitly offer the option.
I’ve set things up exactly the same way for certain items on my end (choice of DHL or Hermes). DPD, GLS and UPS are out of the question for me, and price-wise they’re also roughly on a level with Hermes. You deliver with the shipping provider that was paid for - that’s also part of the concluded purchase contract with payment by the buyer. They should check beforehand exactly what can be selected.
Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. 💪

·1 month agoDear @lidor3073 :
Have you ever tried this and then not received a negative rating because of customer dissatisfaction or something similar? Congrats!
@felsenschulter
As already said, the extra charge cannot be paid via the EBAY system. Try using the "Messages" to let the buyer know your bank details/PayPal details so they can pay the difference. If EBAY blocks that, you still have the buyer’s phone number (in the purchase details). Your buyer will surely understand that.

I haven't had these cases yet, but it seems to be a new scam - I don't want to have to pay extra shipping costs, and according to eBay's terms the buyer is bound by what they selected. After all, I wouldn't go after a purchase and demand a higher-value item for the same price. Accordingly, if I were faced with this new scam, I would try to see it through. Especially since a negative rating would then be contestable if cases like the above were to lead to that.

·1 month agoAddendum: purchase cancellation (“Problem with delivery address” or “Buyer requests cancellation” and then buying again with the correct selection of the shipping provider at checkout - maybe I didn't describe that clearly enough.
Unless someone is out to give the seller a negative rating.

·1 month ago · EditedAfter payment, nothing works anymore. And if the customer wants it and you don't have to put money on top, then I would comply with the request! There are no negative consequences from eBay for that.
However, paying any additional shipping costs afterwards is not possible via eBay.
