I wanted to write a reply to a post, THAT was denied to me, it was shown here that I did NOT have a verified email address.
I have had that for 17 years.
That should be checked sometime, if that is required here, that only members are allowed to reply ...

·2 years agoNope, it didn’t work for me in two cases either. Both “duplicate topics” were unfortunately deleted, so to speak.

·2 years agoNot for my part, because there are too many requirements, and I couldn’t reconcile it with myself to then have to reply at times in line with eBay/the forum operator, which in some cases wouldn’t fit my opinion at all, see e.g. the TOs/all the bugs/worsening changes/lack of ways to contact them/recently the pickup stories etc. etc. ...
And on the other hand I’m glad that over time I’ve virtually stepped away from a lot of things (especially forum work) — it just takes up too much time. Real life is happening elsewhere.

But then, by the same logic, you also can't complain if you can't reply...
For someone who says real life is "happening" somewhere else, you're very often here😉

·2 years agoNo, you don’t have to reply, but you might like to ... and with the really sensitive topics, I’ve noticed that MhMs are rarely around.
Complaining? I don’t really see it that way - that was a reply to Heino’s question/observation about how you can outsmart something. It didn’t work for me (since I also had the urge to reply and, naively, had chosen exactly that route); so I corrected that from my point of view. Maybe different standards are being applied too; who knows.
Often around? I don’t feel that way either; rather not much. Presence and presence are also two different things. Every now and then I reply. Otherwise I tend to side with "viersektoren" - I use the forum, among other things, as info here, so that I’m fully armed if I ever wanted to post articles again.

No, nobody has to write and reply; there is no obligation.

·2 years agoMentor position? Application? That's what they put this lockout in place for. If I want to log in here, I have to prove I'm a human, answer an SMS or call Ebay. This is organized user defense. And then apply as a mentor?

·2 years agoSo I have to regularly prove that I'm a human as soon as I want to look at more than one or two rating profiles or a bidding overview.
Sometimes I even have to log in multiple times if I want to go to a help page from Google.
But I don't see that as deliberate action; here too I go by Hanlon's razor.

·2 years agoSo I don’t want to deny that all the regular posters here (including the mentors) can or must have a certain sense of mission or at least a need to share, in order to get their own wisdom out to people here.... but if it’s so strong that you message people about articles, I’m amazed!

·2 years agoBut I've done that too, and not because of the article (= a product) of a thread starter, but because of the article (= in the sense of the text) that he/she had written, if I couldn't write. Like quite a few of us, if I read the posts correctly.
Otherwise, that's true: you have to be a messenger by nature, otherwise you wouldn't be replying here either; more or less extensively.

you still haven't answered the question of which part
of the forum you wanted to post in.
In "Members help members" you can only post with the appropriate permission,
in the discussion forums, in the café, etc. anyone can reply.
Sometimes messages come up that have absolutely nothing to do with the actual reason,
no idea why... you just can't take that literally.
