Change to shipping settings for each additional item
Summary: *www.theodium.de* expresses concerns about a recent change on eBay that affects shipping costs for international orders. Previously, additional shipping costs could be applied for each additional item, but now it's only for identical items. This change impacts shipping to countries with high costs, like the USA and UK, as it prevents setting incremental charges for varied items, leading to potential losses. *www.theodium.de* is seeking a return to the old settings to manage costs better without deterring customers.

I ship a lot abroad, and weight/quantity often matters. In the shipping settings, you used to be able to select "Additional costs for each additional item." Ebay has quietly changed this to "Additional costs for each additional IDENTICAL item." This has certain effects, especially for shipping to countries where enormous shipping costs can arise (USA, GB...) - here I actually can't work with flat shipping rates, but wanted to at least soften that a bit with a setting of one additional euro per item that is ordered. But because of Ebay's change, my flat rate is simply applied, since different items are being ordered instead of identical ones. Or put another way: I end up stuck with my set shipping flat rate, even though I would actually have to charge significantly more for shipping.
Can we expect a change back to the old settings? For me, it's not a solution to disable the flat rate for certain countries and charge each item with the full shipping amount, because that scares customers off when they first get shipping calculated 10 times...

·2 months agoeBay is also MAX complicated!.
In my account that works and I can set for each additional item how much shipping should be charged. In my wife's account that's not possible, I've tried everything, set the settings the same, no chance. eBay obviously wants you to sell somewhere else!

Hello @carolilli88 - please try switching to the Seller Cockpit Pro with this account, then the listing form should also change.
If you don't like it, it can be deactivated again at any time at the top right on the overview page:
Best regards

Hello @*www.theodium.de*! We’ve checked this, and it turns out there’s been a misunderstanding here. The functions haven’t changed; rather, these are (and always were) two different things.
The option "Additional costs for each additional item" still exists. This view refers to the shipping discount. For it to apply, you have to actively enable it in the shipping terms — specifically wherever you want to use it (domestic and/or international).
What you see as "identical items" belongs to the normal shipping details and has always been separate from that.
Important for your case: If you have to charge by weight (e.g. for the USA/UK), you can’t get around shipping rate tables . At that point, these item-based rules no longer apply anyway, because then weight is the basis for the calculation — that has always been the case.
So the logic has stayed the same; only the presentation was adjusted at some point.
Kind regards
Miriam

OP3 months agoI’m terribly sorry, but that’s not really true. If I set shipping cost conditions, I can choose whether an additional item is charged, very specifically by destination country (!). I did this for GB, for example, and tested it too - it worked! Days later it suddenly said "Amount for each identical item" instead of "Amount for each additional item" - and then the lower flat rate was charged. Something has definitely been changed here.

·3 months agoHi @*www.theodium.de*
with the framework conditions, it still works just like always:
Every identical item is the surcharge for each additional item of the same listing, e.g. with a quantity of 5.
All orders for other listings are controlled by the rules for combined shipping.
However, the whole thing currently only still works for auctions and buyer-initiated price suggestions. For Buy It Now items, this has only been possible via the "holy" cart for a long time now, unfortunately. ☹️
