Pickup..... and pay via eBay???
...I’ve still got one more.
Deposit on cans.
Introduction of the euro.
Shutting down nuclear power plants.
Bad enough already.
But now also (well - it’s been a while, really...)
Pickup and payment for auctioned/bought goods only via the eBay payment system???
NEVER EVER.
Even if you’re probably losing out on commission there:
If I auction/buy something and pick it up - THEN I PAY CASH or on site with PayPal or similar.
Otherwise I’ll just leave it!
"Buyer protection???"
If I’m standing in front of the goods, I’ve got enough time to look at the item.
I don’t need any "buyer protection" for that, I just use my own common sense.
Also, a seller whose item I’ve carried away and who - according to your "specs" - then has to wait forever for their dough because they’ll get it through the eBay payment system, will think very carefully about whether ALL of that is really right....
And if someone again needs something specific for the specialist department dance group:
LIKE AT A FLEA MARKET.
Just like before/since the beginning of time:
Pickup: CASH payment.
Note: All texts that may follow here FOR the eBay system in this form are completely far-fetched and simply totally out of touch with reality.
Let’s see!!!

"The goal is for eBay to be perceived as an even safer local shopping platform. "
Unfortunately, at least in my area, I can no longer find any local offers that would be interesting to me.
I only find those now with the former "little brother" and plenty of them at that.
There used to be a lot to find on eBay.
The fact that nowadays in my area in the field of "white goods" there is nothing left except new cheap appliances has been brought on by eBay itself.
So for me EBAY is now absolutely safe locally.(If I don't buy anything, nothing will happen to me either)

·2 years agoHow are you supposed to find anything in this messed-up search?
A washing machine will definitely be shown to you for pickup in China, probably under long white jeans.
You surely don’t think that as a private seller I’d still offer a used device here with a 30-day whining guarantee.
Honestly, whoever does this must have been hit with the stupid stick.
out-of-order-nix-mehr-da
·2 years ago30-day complaint guarantee? If things go badly and the customer complains via PayPal, it's even 180 days; that's actually happening right now with some private sellers. Money and goods gone. well, not gone, just somewhere else

·2 years agoAnd we’re not just talking about a few euros, but about things like the Rolex, where 12,530€ are suddenly gone. With cash payment upon personal handover, that wouldn’t have happened. Or is the poor guy now getting these 12,530€ back just like that? Or at least his watch. Everything is so safe here, isn’t it. I feel so safe here because I don’t have to handle anything anymore.
old-euro
·2 years agoI don’t know why this poor guy is even still waiting. I wouldn’t even do that for a smaller amount. At €12,500 I would have had the cash clawed back immediately, no mercy. Provided I had first come up with the stupid idea to sell something on eBay under current conditions, let alone a Rolex for 12 grand. Something like that wouldn’t even occur to me in my wildest dreams. Even with a purchase with pickup, I would always pay in cash. A pickup should not be preset in a listing at all. Same goes for promoting the item. That option also should not already be activated by eBay. Such practices have to be stopped. The seller shouldn’t have to deselect these options, but should proactively enable them if he wants. Miriam is only embarrassing herself with her statements now, statements she doesn’t even believe herself. I don’t want a job where I’m only allowed to parrot the words my employer puts in my mouth and write artificial sentences that remind me of a primitive AI.

·2 years agoSo the money is due to him.
And I think with that amount I'd like to hear the judge who accepts eBay's terms and conditions
old-euro
·2 years agoA court case wouldn’t even come to that in a case like this. Why? Because eBay knows full well that they would lose and thereby create a precedent. Half of the eBay clauses wouldn’t stand up in court. Companies with dodgy terms and conditions avoid the courts like the devil avoids holy water. For whatever reason, many here think that just because eBay is a big name, everything has been thought through and thoroughly checked and approved by their legal department. That’s a misconception. Nothing works at eBay the way it’s supposed to. Inconsistencies, malfunctions, false information, and ignoring the applicable laws shape the eBay landscape. Why should it be any different when it comes to legal matters? Just because no one has sued eBay yet does not mean for a long time that the terms and conditions are compliant with the law. And although many here keep repeating like a mantra “you agreed to the terms and conditions,” it means absolutely nothing. Terms and conditions that violate the law or unlawful clauses would not hold up in court, even with consent.

Hello @zerappelzappel and everyone! We hereby acknowledge your thoughts on cashless pickup. Deleting the cash payment option on pickup for both business and private sellers in most categories from the sales form is a deliberate business decision. The goal is for eBay to be perceived as an even safer local shopping platform. Another advantage: there is no renegotiating, thanks to binding advance payment online. With this step, we also stand out from the competition, and it will take some time to get used to this change.
It's a shame that you feel so negatively about our payment system. My reply probably won't change your opinion, but maybe you now understand the background a little better.

·2 years agoDear Miriam
after all, with Ebay it’s only about the money that ends up in your account. As an adult buyer I decide, when picking up in person, and in any case it’s only about large items, whether the item is worth the money and matches the description, and if it doesn’t fit, then I take my money and leave again. And if the money is with you first, it becomes complicated. It used to work so well all these years.
That the sellers **bleep** are completely irrelevant to you is obvious from the many private sellers who get ripped off for money and goods in foreign sales, and Ebay and the payment service providers keep blaming each other.
For me it’s clear: I still buy on Ebay, but when it comes to large items that I want to inspect, there is only cash payment on pickup or I buy on other platforms

I'll be so free as to quote you:
"... that eBay is perceived as a still safe, local shopping platform ..."
When exactly is that supposed to happen, in 2040, 2061, or rather never?
Yes, you can't help it and you're in the friction point between users and management (thankless position), but their wrong turn is not ours 🙄

·2 years ago@zerappelzappel
So I regularly have buyers pick up there, they’re happy about great goods and even happier about a little bulk discount when they take more, and imagine that, sometimes they even come back 😎
I’d now rather doubt that eBay will ever become that "local" 🤗
zerappelzappel
OP2 years agoEXACTLY! EXACTLY!
That’s what I’m saying!!
Just yesterday!
Super nice, super pleasant, great transaction as usual.
A bit of a discount? That’s in there too, as long as the other person isn’t a total moron (and you also adjust prices so there’s a bit of room for a discount anyway: "flea market principle")
Oh yeah... forgot... example to the team for... "forwarding":
Price 330.00 negotiable is really around 300.00-310.00
-> fixed price!!!
Works!
miriam@ebay
Hello @erwerbsregel! Rest assured that our teams responsible for pickup at eBay are also aware that the current process and handling are still not perfect. There will need to be further adjustments in the future to improve the user experience.
The decision not to offer cash payments anymore is an initial major step that contributes to a trustworthy handling of local transactions and sets eBay apart from the competition.

Wieder hinbringen ? Wer übernimmt die Kosten ?

I used to be very active in the forums here and followed the development a bit
Personally, I got the impression that at Ebay there seems to be an increasing tendency to deny problems, talk them up, sweep them under the rug, hide them, or simply ignore them.
Instead of even halfway solving the problems.
Pretty much the same logic as a child who covers its eyes so it can't be seen.
Apparently they don't realize what reputation the company really has by now.
My opinion.....

·2 years agoJEMALS is wrong, correct would be:
Will Ebay become as social again as it once was!!!!
It was great to get to know so many nice people, I don't know how many km I drove through Germany because of eBay, a car from Stuttgart for 123 euros, a motorcycle ....... and so on.
That was eBay back then, super social. Today only **bleep** social, sorry.
Everything would have continued just fine if eBay hadn't stuck its nose into everything, blocked contacts, prevented the exchange of phone numbers and email addresses, just to keep customers tied to itself, that's when the first buyer flight started.
Today it's just through the little brother, every now and then there's a coffee, a nice chat and, if there's a scratch that wasn't there before, maybe even a discount. Cash on the table and have a nice day, for a larger sum just a real-time bank transfer.

·2 years ago>>Another advantage: There is no renegotiation, thanks to binding advance payment online.
Pickups are usually not shippable items. The buyer comes and takes it. On the way, he accidentally drops the item. So “item does not match the description” and
during checkout there are the options
- refund money return goods
- refund money keep goods
- partial refund
and boom, the seller is trapped. Because refund money and return goods - hmmm how does he get his bulky item back?
With pickup, the buyer has an inspection option, and this very option can be bypassed. Does eBay itself check whether the item really does not match the description?
So the buyer always has the upper hand.
>>With this step we also set ourselves apart from the competition and it will take some time,

Well, for me it will still take decades. The local flea market or the electronic ad rag next door doesn't require any getting-used-to tour either.

Reading between the lines, I subtly get: the dumb users פשוט haven’t understood yet how good this is for them.
The historical fact is probably also that there was nothing like this back in eBay’s glory days. Or was there?
Maybe there is some connection there 😉

Rather than us getting used to it, Miriam will have another job. The reason is obvious. If eBay doesn’t engage reverse gear, which is rather unlikely, there are only two future scenarios for this platform.
1. Insolvency due to irrelevance.
2. Replacing the remaining flesh-and-blood employees with AI, which will continue to pound stupid, reality-detached eBay theses into the heads of the few surviving forum zombies.
The glorious eBay days are over for good. Even the dismissed little brother has long since overtaken eBay beyond all reach. The only thing eBay has managed to distance itself from the competition on are negative headlines.

·2 years agoHello dear all,
when I look at the discussion here so far, it confirms my decision to offer only one item here for local pickup. And that because of the price = € 1200.00.
In this case, I would have the buyer confirm in writing upon pickup that
- the item matches the description
- the item is functional (by testing it upon pickup)
- by visual inspection by the buyer
Anything else is none of eBay's business.
I would offer more items for local pickup if eBay would step back here and reduce local pickup again to what it once was: goods for cash
As long as that doesn't happen, I won't offer any further items for local pickup.
Best regards from the Baltic Sea

·2 years agoHello @petersmodellbahnstuebchen
I think that’s exactly eBay’s goal: pickup is supposed to be driven out of the VK.
It’s similar to the auction format: they don’t dare abolish it, so they just make it unattractive through the back door.
The real background is of course not safety, but eBay’s control obsession. The company wants to control as MANY aspects of selling as possible.
That with pickup and cash payment the money doesn’t flow into eBay’s pocket has probably been a thorn in their side for a long time. Also, the personal contact between VK/K apparently bothers eBay. That’s why pickup is supposed to be made unattractive.

Hi RKF,
I completely agree with you. By making pickup unattractive, it will disappear from eBay here sooner or later.
And in my opinion, that is intentional. The buyer could have a look around the store and discover more "treasures" for themselves and come back again, without checking eBay first. A sly one who thinks anything bad of that 😊

Wasn’t there an action not too long ago (9 months) where pickup was checked as standard in the sales form and also advertised accordingly?

·2 years agoJust thinking out loud here, @dmary56 :
I’m picturing that I bought a huge, bulky piece of furniture (or something similar) and then, when picking it up, find out that it doesn’t match the description and is just junk for bulk trash.
Then I’d still have to take it with me first, in order to be able to provide proof if necessary, maybe an expert report, if I want my money back.
Or how is that supposed to work then?
I think life is a lot less stressful without eBay
dmary56
·2 years agolegitimate question @luden_hut , which I can’t answer for you due to lack of experience.
Maybe an eBay employee can comment on this
@nina@ebay
What would be the best course of action in such a case, it can always happen
that items appear different in real life than in the item description.
Would it be enough just to report that the item does not match the description in order to get the money
back?
Should the defects be documented on site?
It makes little sense to take the item first and then, with proof? (in what form?) bring it back to the seller....
luden_hut
·2 years ago@dmary56
It already annoys me enough that you even have to ask in a forum first here to clarify things.
Way too complicated, all of this...
@zerappelzappel is absolutely right here, pickup should only be done with cash payment after inspecting the goods.

miriam@ebay
Hello0 @dmary56 and @luden_hut - I'd be happy to answer your question.
Personally, as a seller, I would cancel the transaction on the spot (reason: buyer requests cancellation) - then you can move on and don't have to take the item home first only to return it later via an eBay return request - that saves time and the refund also happens faster.
A return due to a defective item or one that differs significantly from the description is possible within the scope of our Buyer Protection for up to 30 days, even if the return policy states that returns are not accepted. If buyers want to return items for no particular reason and the listing states that returns are not accepted, sellers are not obliged to accept the return request.
I hope this helps you 🙂.
Kind regards
Miriam

·2 years ago@miriam@ebay
So a seller who first tries to deceive the buyer about the condition of the item is then supposed to be immediately and effortlessly willing to cancel the transaction on the spot?
And what if not?
For the seller, canceling would initially bring no advantage.
Does eBay keep the money then ???
