Remove AfD items from eBay
if you enter the name of the party “AfD” in the search field, you get the info that there are more than 5800 results for it on eBay.
The eBay policy on Nazi and other extremist items states: “On Ebay, it is not permitted to offer items that glorify or trivialize National Socialism or extremist and/or anti-constitutional ideology…. The aim of eBay Germany is to prevent items glorifying or trivializing National Socialism from entering everyday culture through commercial exploitation.”
The AfD as a whole party is a suspected case of right-wing extremism, and some state associations are confirmed to be far-right extremist. Therefore it cannot be the case that there is such a selection of AfD items here - that also contradicts the above-mentioned eBay policy! For that reason, all AfD items should be removed from the offerings immediately and permanently.

you can feel however you want about the AfD, but as long as it hasn't been banned as a party, you can't stop the sale of fan merchandise either.
That said, I think that some of the 5,800 search results could very well include anti-AfD items. Personally, I also don't think that AfD fan merchandise threatens democracy.
And even if some state associations are classified as confirmed far-right - as long as the AfD hasn't been banned, eBay won't do anything about it, and why should they? There's no legal basis for that; in the end it would simply be arbitrary. And that is actually the exact opposite of what you imagine under a constitutional state and a democracy. Because in a democracy, a minority must also be protected, and that currently still includes AfD supporters 😉

·1 year agoAs long as there is no ban on a party and a party is eligible to run, it is also allowed to do campaign advertising. Then the sale of fan merchandise or similar items would probably also be permitted.
You’d like to see that prohibited, without any legal basis.
What exactly do you mean by rule of law?

for me, in accordance with the rule of law means everything that is in line with the Basic Law. And in the AfD there are “sufficient indications of efforts directed against the constitution” (according to the ruling of the Cologne Administrative Court, March 2022). That is what worries me.
Yes, there is no legal basis for prohibiting the sale of AfD fan merchandise. But if eBay itself sets a principle like the one above, and the AfD can be classified as a suspected far-right extremist case, it seems obvious to me that eBay should think about following its own principle as well – and thus achieve a goal it set for itself and send a clear signal against right-wing extremism.

I asked you about your understanding of rule of law, and you replied like this:
So: you agree that there is no legal basis for a ban, but then want to use the guidelines of a commercial actor to achieve a ban anyway.
Then take a look at what kind of rules, for example, Elon Musk will be setting up soon.
As for me, I’d rather trust our courts.

maybe I expressed myself ambiguously in my post, but I’m not talking about AfD items being banned from the outside (certainly not without a legal basis), but only about eBay possibly, of its own accord and out of its own conviction - voluntarily, in other words - prohibiting the sale of AfD items and thus preventing it.
After all, the eBay policy says: „The goal of eBay Germany is to prevent items that glorify or trivialize National Socialism from finding their way into everyday culture through commercial exploitation.“
And I think this goal is right and worth supporting.

I’m definitely not an AfD fan and I’m not going to discuss their party platform here either.
However, your comparison with the National Socialists is inappropriate and completely unfounded.
I don’t know how old you are, but in the early 80s another party came along that people were cursing and complaining about; I mean the Republicans. There was a huge uproar, but they were elected too.
Time will show where the path leads, and as long as a party is not banned, ebay should remain neutral here; from a business perspective, this is also the only option.
Here in Germany, we can be proud of one thing: our Basic Law.

Hello @marian2025 and everyone! Since the discussion here is getting out of hand and becoming too political, and personal accusations can quickly come into play, I’m now closing this after marking the reply from @katzenjogi as the solution that seemed most objective to me.
eBay is a marketplace where, in principle, anything that is legal may be sold – even though there are many items we don’t like for all sorts of reasons.
