Display of the shipping service provider for shops
For an ad, under "Shipping" the location and shipping costs are displayed. Ebay could at least also show the preferred shipping provider for shops, since these work better or worse depending on the region. For example, especially with low-priced items, I would not buy if the shop uses a certain shipping provider that doesn't work locally here, but would rather switch to another shop with a different provider, even if the item costs a few cents more there.
One provider has permission to leave the package, the second doesn't, the third arrives at odd times, the fourth leaves the shipment at some shady "parcel shop" that you'd have to drive halfway across the city to get to. I'd like to know that before buying.

when you open the article, you can see directly which service provider the seller prefers, as @perfect-sally already wrote:
And in the further details you can check whether the seller offers any others.
And of course you can contact the seller to ask whether they’d be willing to use your preferred delivery service. Whether they do that is, of course, up to the seller.

that's not quite right. Some deliberately don't list a service provider.
Then it says something like other or similar, but no service provider is mentioned.

·1 year agoIf the offer says parcel shipping, then you can ask which shipping provider it will be sent with, @deichchef .
I don't know of any shipping provider where everything always goes perfectly for everyone.
I myself have had to collect bad experiences with various shipping providers.
However, those were always isolated cases.

I don't buy from anyone where it only says "other."
I don't ask because I expect the shipping provider to be clearly named.

OP1 year agoNo, I definitely won't ask all the shops that might be eligible. How long is the shopping supposed to take? And as I said, these aren't isolated cases, one works great, another not at all.

·1 year agoI wrote that for me they were isolated cases, that I had bad luck with the shipping providers, with various shipping providers.

in a case like that, I just ask the seller how they ship item xy or whether they send it with DHL and how much that would cost. Those are all things you can clarify before buying. Same with combined shipping, which I always clarify with a seller before buying or placing bids

OP1 year agoRather rarely. And no, with inexpensive "mass-produced items" I won't contact every potentially suitable seller. After days, I still wouldn't have all the replies.

if you don't want to ask the seller, then just leave it. And if that "cheap mass-produced item" is so important to you, then just buy it from another seller who lays out their shipping conditions completely openly.
On Ebay, every seller has the option to set their own shipping conditions. Even if you don't like that, Ebay definitely won't change it.

OP1 year agoNo reason to get snippy. Of course every seller should decide that for themselves, I never claimed anything else, did I?
I merely meant it as a kind of suggestion for improvement toward eBay, that sellers should write down THEIR preferred service provider. You managed it too, apparently it didn't hurt at all. Others can't manage that; here eBay could perhaps provide a small hint. Maybe that's asking too much, maybe I also have a completely wrong expectation.
Anyway, I'll follow your advice and from now on won't buy from sellers who:
- specify the service provider that is unreliable for me (the fewest)
- can't manage to name one (probably the most)
That helps at least me, even if I then just use other portals. Thanks a lot for the lively participation!

no idea what you mostly buy, but in my experience most sellers do state how and with whom they ship, completely regardless of what they have on offer and at what price

Maybe your suggestion could be rephrased?
Maybe it would be possible for ebay to add to the filter lists and make the well-known shippers available there as an option?
Options:
DHL
Deutsche Post
DPD
Hermes
UPS
GLS
TransOFlex
So similar to location, condition, postcode range, etc. etc.

·1 year agoThere are around 40,000 postal code locations in Germany.
How is a shipper supposed to know which one works “well” or “poorly” in the target region.
In my opinion, you can just ask the seller beforehand, give them a heads-up, or agree on a shipper directly.
I think this is not a problem that ebay needs to solve.
There are more important issues.

·1 year agoYou only need to click on more details in the article during shipping, and you can already see what the seller specified.
Whether the seller actually shipped it according to their details is anyone's guess.

but that’s not an Ebay problem, it’s the seller’s problem, since they just haven’t stored a specific service provider.
As I always write, if you have questions, ask the seller.
