Automatically stated return shipping costs too high!
For a small item that I want to send back, eBay offers me via the automated returns process Hermes for 6.43 or DHL for 8.10 euros.
The same parcel/package costs 4.89 euros with Hermes directly and 6.19 euros with DHL.
Why can’t the buyer choose and specify their own options here.

I sold an item for €15 and the buyer wants to return it. I sent the item with a shipping label bought via eBay for €1.80, and as a return label I’m only being offered Hermes for €6.54 or DHL for €8.60.
Can you help me out here?

·8 months agoThe DHL package is probably an official, full-fledged return label with 120x60x60cm and a weight of up to 31.5kg. Accordingly, it’s more of a flat rate, no matter how big/heavy the item actually is. eBay doesn’t know the actual size of the shipping box or the weight including packing paper either.
The one for 6.19 from DHL directly is only 60x30x15cm and only 2kg in weight.

·8 months agoA return shipment that you can process through eBay is always more expensive than an initiated initial shipment. That is the pricing policy of logistics companies for official returns to the seller.
Your advantage is that the tracking number is displayed directly on eBay and the return is also marked as shipped in the returns section on eBay.
You can also ship it yourself with your own shipping provider or buy your own DHL or Hermes label, but you have to upload it on eBay in the corresponding return or talk to support, because otherwise your return will be considered never shipped and then it can get really problematic if you have to chase your refund, because the burden of proof is on you to show that you really sent the item back.

OP8 months agoWhy should a "return" be the justification for a more expensive shipment.
It is the same transport route from A to B or back from B to A.
In my view, the customer is being needlessly harassed here to upload the tracking number / receipt and argue with support.
Some time ago it was no problem to manually enter tracking numbers and that was it.

·6 months agoProbably a brilliant idea from eBay. Someone should take legal action against that. Now it’s even worse. Now eBay apparently won’t even let you register a return unless you’ve bought their overpriced shipping label. Audacity!

·6 months agoWhat screenshot? I’ll send the tracking number to the seller. As always, when it comes to shipments worth 15 euros with 1.80 euros shipping, but it’s supposed to cost over 6 euros for return shipping. The fact that I can’t even initiate a return now is truly unbelievable.
