Unsubscribe from notifications!

It would be great if you could deselect everything in your notification settings and then really not receive any email notifications.

Is there any way to set that up?

So that you don't just remove the checkmark(s)/all of them and save it, but then really don't get any email when it is sent or when you have received the item. So that it is really implemented 1:1 as it has been set and desired for months, as shown in the attachment?

ok, I’ve now completely BLOCKED ALL emails from eBay for the time being, until I can decide again myself which mails get shoved in my face.

It CANNOT be that I’m being patronized here too, after more than 21 years of membership!

I get mails about package announcements and shipping status from the parcel services themselves, and I don’t need this faulty crap from eBay on top of that!

At least if it were correct, but no, I’m getting an email now, e.g. around 19:21, saying “DHL Germany unfortunately did not find you at home.”

All I can do is laugh, I already got an email from DHL at around 16:00 saying “Delivery was unfortunately not possible today, due to a breakdown, illness, blah blah”

My inbox is full of this junk!

ENOUGH!

P.S. Tomorrow the hotline will be tortured until it’s “normal” again; otherwise I’m going to see a lawyer.

End of story..

Hello @ferroespada! I’m sorry to see that you feel bothered by our notifications. Your frustration about incorrect status messages is understandable and we’d like to look into the reported discrepancy so that information can be transmitted correctly again in the future.

when it’s shipped or when you’ve received the goods

No, shipping and also delivery confirmation cannot be disabled.

I handle it so that all emails are saved in a folder called "Purchases".

After a transaction has gone through, the goods have arrived with me, and everything is okay, I delete the emails.

And then why, in the notifications, is there the option to deselect it—if that's not possible anyway, why isn't that then implemented?

It doesn't seem very sensible to offer the option of choosing what you want to receive and what you don't, and then still send exactly the things that were deselected...

Hello @ek1810 and sorry that you are not satisfied with my answer.

To take a closer look at your specific case, I have 2 questions for you:

Could you please name specific emails that you still receive despite the notification setting being deactivated?
In principle, it can take up to two weeks for changes to the notification settings to take effect and for you to no longer receive system notifications - depending on the selection. When did you change the settings?

It remains the case that there are additional system notifications that are not listed in the notification settings and for which there are still system notifications.

Hello @ek1810 - we have taken another detailed look at your concern for you. The emails you receive come directly from the shipping carriers and not from eBay. Examples of these are:

"Your xxx shipment has been left at the requested drop-off location"
"Your xxx shipment is arriving today – track it live now..."
"Your xxx shipment will be delivered shortly"

The email with the subject "Order confirmation" also comes directly from your seller (order ending in -41275) and not from eBay. You cannot prevent communication with your trading partner.

What you can do now: Please check whether the shipping updates can be turned off at the end of the respective emails. If unsubscribing does not work, you can also mark the emails as "unwanted" or "spam". Then they will automatically end up in the spam folder. However, that should be the last option, as real delivery information could then possibly be missed.

The messages you deselected in your notification settings are correctly no longer being sent by eBay. However, the respective systems of the shipping carriers or sellers are solely responsible for the additional notifications. I hope that we were able to create some clarity with this detailed answer. Please get back in touch here if anything is still unclear.

So you're seriously claiming that emails with the sender ebay@ebay.com come from the seller?

Then what's the difference to mails with sender XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX@members.ebay.com and coming from DHL, GLS, etc..?

I could send you the final report from the Potsdam state data protection authority, which clearly states that this is not the case, so that was definitely incorrect information!

And you still haven't answered the question of which notifications from eBay I can't turn off, because that's what you originally claimed, that there were some!

Where did the shipping service provider get my real email address? Not even the seller has it, because they only got a "XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX@members.ebay.com" from me too, i.e. my encrypted address...

Could you please clarify where the shipping service provider got my real address from - only eBay knows it, so??

Hello,

no outside party has your email address.

All communication runs through the ebay-members address and is then forwarded by ebay to the real private one.

The shipping notifications therefore first go to ebay and ebay then forwards the email to your real email address .

As expected, tech apparently tucked its tail between its legs and hasn’t gotten back to you.
So far, you haven’t even been able to answer the question of what kind of notifications those would be, but you just claim there are some.

Are you proud of claiming something without being able to provide proof afterward?
Weak performance, more like failure on every front...
By now, complaints management has been on it for weeks, but there too it’s just hot air with no concrete information..

Hello @ek1810 and thanks for your suggestion! There are indeed certain eBay notifications that you can’t completely turn off. Some notifications are required for security or transaction-related reasons and cannot currently be disabled. These typically include order status messages such as "order shipped" or "order delivered".

This is intentional and it does have its purpose. If these messages bother you, you could set up rules in your email program to automatically move them into a separate folder. Since the subject lines are usually structured similarly, this can usually be done without any problems.

But dear Miriam, then just show that you’re not simply parroting this brush-off reply, but actually know what you’re writing:

1. Which “specific eBay notifications” exactly are those that can’t be turned off? You can surely list them for the community here.

2. Explain to the community and to me why, in the notification settings, you can select or deselect “item purchased,” “item shipped,” and “item received” if, whether selected or deselected, that notification still comes through anyway! Why are these options even there in the settings if they’re not applicable, and why are they not “permanently and unchangeably checked”?
