Letter from eBay - Invitation to eBay Open 2025
Hi, hello,
today I received an invitation to Ebay Open 2025.
Full of anticipation, I read through the invitation and was amazed,
that this invitation only contains a voucher code,
to save 10% on the ticket purchase.
For me, that’s advertising and not an invitation!
If I invite someone out for a beer, they get the first and the last beer paid for...

We'll just have to wait and see how that turns out. One or two people might chime in on that.
In any case, I don't think anyone spent the whole night eagerly waiting for it or stood in line until ticket sales were announced by email.

Such an event involves a lot of work and therefore is not free of charge. With the 10% voucher, we wanted to give you a little gift to make attending more attractive - of course only if you want to use it.
It is important to us that everyone has the chance to hear about invitations like this. However, anyone who does not want to receive this information can adjust their notification settings at any time. Of course, we comply with legal requirements and send everything in line with the GDPR.
We very much hope that, despite the long journey, we may still be able to welcome you to our highlight of the year! 🙂
@ttd4it: Don't worry, there were definitely more than three discounted tickets, and if they’re gone that fast, you know: this is going to be huge! 🎉

Already at the time of the first announcement by email and the associated invitation, the discounted tickets were no longer available.
So basically after 5 minutes … Either there were only 3 tickets or this is going to be a huge event.

·11 months agoThe "problem" with the emails is just that they can’t be sent out to all users at the same time, otherwise some server somewhere would crash 😋
Sometimes you can read here that some people comment on the contents of emails and then others ask "which email?" because it only reaches them later.
... and that’s probably how it went with the tickets too; before the last person got the email, the quota was already gone 🤔

There are also free events "on site" .... there should be a lot more of those (feel free to pass that on) we’re lucky enough to live in a big city, so there was this free event in Hamburg 😎
I also don’t know whether you invite your "powersellers" to this event for free?
In any case, we were invited for free by one of our suppliers to his big event, including hotel with one night’s stay, 2 people (O.K. the place had 1.5 stars 😂 ) + at least a 50€ Aral voucher for the trip .... + food&drinks of course free too ....
maybe pass that along as a suggestion as well (by powerseller I obviously don’t mean us !!)

I think it's really great that ebay is planning and putting on a nice event.
But the implementation of an "invitation" didn't work out.
It would be great if "Ebay" could say what was behind this idea.
1. Is this an invitation or actually advertising?
2. Does anyone think that 10% off is a reason to visit?
An invitation with a ticket would be a sign of appreciation from
eBay toward me. I would drive the 550 km and book a hotel for two nights right away.

Went straight into the recycling bin!
I don't need to spend 99,- to look at eBay's self-congratulation.
"This beautiful, perfect eBay world with the big community."
It's all about money and nothing else.
When I even think about "Advertising".
That's where the sellers are played off against each other to rake in even more cash.
The word "Community" is sadly the height of hypocrisy for me!!!

·11 months ago... what really annoys me about this: We all got an email and just clicked it away. If so many tickets are still unsold, why not send the 10% voucher again by EMAIL ?!
If one had saved all that postage and printing (not to mention CO2 and paper waste), wouldn’t it have been better to use that money to give away or raffle off 1000 tickets ?
