eBay rating system for eBay itself
Summary: The discussion pertains to the eBay rating system for eBay itself, although no specific content or viewpoints are provided in this thread. Multiple participants, including mmstore74, voli-maus, and others, appear to engage, but their contributions remain unspecified.
Hello everyone,
I think it would be great if Ebay set up a rating system for itself, where buyers and sellers can also rate Ebay, for example on things like:
Customer service satisfaction
Fairness in general
Usability of the site
General satisfaction
The constant changes
...and then evaluate that after 6 months. Wouldn't that be an interesting thing, or what do you think?
Best regards and have a nice weekend

·1 month agoWhoa... Best would be if, when the service gets worse, e.g. if it drops below 98%, the fees go down.

·4 months agoBuyer turns to the payment service provider, gets his money refunded, eBay takes it back from the seller's account, the seller is left holding the bag even though the case on eBay was decided in his favor.! Only a short email from eBay apologizing, it couldn't be done any other way.! eBay seller protection does not exist, only in the ads! Easy to circumvent.!

·4 months agoHi @oldman1960
there is indeed eBay seller protection, even in payment disputes.
However, it's of course difficult for eBay to judge the individual case, since eBay doesn't get to see the condition of the item either before shipping or after it has been received.
Who is eBay supposed to believe now?
That's just one of the risks when you sell online.

I do understand if someone just wants to "let off steam" !
However, you are making some claims that could confuse other readers.
- Let's start with your "not legally okay" !
Are you a lawyer or judge, or do you have a corresponding ruling in hand ?
I rather doubt it, so you should first find out about eBay's terms and conditions and their legality before making such claims !
- That you as the seller are responsible for the buyer receiving their goods was already the case before.
You can't "pass off" that responsibility !
The relevant §447 is circumvented by eBay's terms and conditions - which you, incidentally, agreed to when you signed up !
- What can eBay do if DHL misplaces a package ?
And why does it surprise you that they don't want to be held responsible for it and hold back the payout for so long.
In the opposite case, you would certainly do exactly the same !
But some of what you say is actually true.
The eBay phone support was really better before - these days it isn't even worthy of the name !
The same applies, in my opinion, to payment processing; that used to be simpler, more transparent, and above all more personal !
By the way, you can certainly leave a review for eBay itself - namely on Trustpilot.
It doesn't do much, and eBay probably couldn't care less - but at least you do have the option !

·6 months agoI’m also already searching the net for a way to rate eBay itself. Google AI is too stupid to understand that and always gives explanations to this question about how to leave ratings for others on eBay 🤣
If I had to rate eBay right now, it wouldn’t come out well. Back then, when I sold something here, the buyer would transfer the money to me or send it via PayPal. Now, after many years, I’m selling something again and eBay is holding onto the money itself at first. I do understand this approach, but I do not agree with the length of the procedure - especially if something goes wrong with DHL. My DHL parcel, which I had sent toward the buyer, was first misplaced by DHL and then the phone odyssey began, during which once again none of the companies (DHL and eBay) felt responsible. After the sale, eBay "forces" me to pay for a DHL parcel on their platform and then when DHL misplaces the parcel, eBay tells me on their hotline that I am the one responsible for the delivery of the parcel and therefore I don’t get my money as long as the parcel has not been marked as delivered by DHL. The fact that DHL now has to search for my parcel because they misplaced it doesn’t interest eBay at all, since in their eyes I am supposed to be responsible for the delivery.
Because of all this chaos, I now had to wait 14 days from selling my item until eBay paid out my money. That won’t happen to me again, because I will definitely not sell anything on eBay anymore!!! Legally, that is not okay, eBay calling me the one responsible for parcel delivery, even though by paying for the shipping label and handing the parcel over to the DHL branch I had handed responsibility for the parcel over to DHL! eBay’s behavior is outrageous! But American corporations have always believed they can do whatever they want!

Hello @fireblade_pit - if there is something we can support you with, it would help to open a new topic in the area for private sellers, so that we can help accordingly and it stays easy to keep track of > Private sellers.
You’re still stuck at verification, and for now you’ll need to be a little patient until we were able to credit and debit the cent amount. That can take 7 to 8 days, but it usually goes faster. As soon as that’s done, you’ll reliably receive your payouts that are already available.
Kind regards
Miriam

I would even think it would be very good if Ebay set something like that up. If Ebay carried it out themselves, that would leave a bad taste in my mouth.
However, from my point of view, that would only make sense if Ebay commissioned an independent market research company to conduct independently representative surveys among users (buyers and sellers). Then the users who are not part of the group that writes here in the forum would also get a say (yes, I mean us "old" geezers here, who have been annoyed with Ebay for years).
The results would probably surprise us a lot, but they might cool some emotions down.

·1 year agoHello Marc,
I think ebay doesn’t need its own rating system. That’s what third-party providers are for.
But I’m still interested in a "error log" that makes it clear when an error / note was reported, processed, or resolved.
mmstore74
OP2 years agoHello @rotoskop-kulturfilm
and that’s exactly where the problem lies too, if everyone really just stays quiet, nothing happens, but what do you think, if overnight all the dealers said, we’re shutting all the shops until something changes, what do you think would happen then ??
No hard feelings
rotoskop-kulturfilm
·2 years ago...who says that the “voting with their feet” isn’t already well underway?
1. The selection on eBay has become noticeably and steadily smaller over the last few years (masked by eBay through the increasing display of foreign listings in the search results).
2. The company eBay has not published any more data on seller numbers in its reports for some years now, although it used to - that probably speaks for itself too.

@rotoskop-kulturfilm
There must already be a reason why Ebay has now started pushing smaller sellers with automatic ratings to help them grow.
And “voting with your feet” probably also applies to buyers, if I see, for example, that there are hardly any other bidders left in many auctions.
I’m not surprised; finding your way around Ebay is becoming more and more difficult.
The important search functions are being restricted more and more and don’t work properly, and instead there are lots of “ads” and the user is pressured with aggressive advertising through special offers in the form of price suggestions.
Important information, such as the sellers’ location or the ratings, is hidden behind several mouse clicks.
And so on............
I personally am also increasingly put off by the “corporate ethics” of this platform
Honestly, I’m not interested in any additional new rating system if I can’t even trust the old one anymore because I get the impression that it’s being manipulated.
Ebay is no longer anything special either; for the most part it’s just a completely ordinary, profit-oriented “shopping site” on the internet, like others too.
If I still write something here from time to time, then for me it’s actually mainly about nostalgia and memory
voli-maus
·2 years agoDo you mean the businesses or the private sellers, @mmstore74 ?
And yes, I understand you.
I work in local retail.
The small shops and cafes have it tough.
And many dealers are gone,
Hm, and if everyone, really everyone, all at once, were to “close their shops” ......dream on...
Many sellers have no other “source of income”.
And sellers from the Far East probably won’t strike, especially if they aren’t registered as businesses.
mmstore74
OP2 years agoHello @voli-maus
Yes, I mean the private ones.
That all sellers should close for 1 month or so was meant ironically, everything is going downhill here, not just eBay, it will soon be a very, very poor country but let's not expand on the topic any further, please.
What also annoys you so much, try sending someone a message with a phone number or something, zero chance, that defense system works just fine, but filtering out private/commercial ones is not possible 🤣
luden_hut
·2 years ago@mmstore74
Of course that’s possible, and Ebay has apparently already started urging private/commercial accounts to register as commercial sellers, and that’s only for Ebay’s own benefit + profit.
I rather get the impression that the private/commercial users are being fed up first so they can be milked later.
rotoskop-kulturfilm
·2 years agoHello @mmstore74
There are already various different rating systems for eBay:
1. Annoying feedback request pop-ups on the eBay website
2. External rating sites
3. The forum here
4. Users joining/leaving/activity (“voting with their feet”)
I may have forgotten another option too.
Or do you perhaps mean more of a public pillory, where people can vent their frustration - you already have that here, don't you?
It shows how desperate you are that eBay apparently doesn't respond to (your) users' concerns, even though everything here just keeps going downhill.
I completely understand your frustration completely, but what would a rating site actually achieve?
eBay's shortcomings and users' annoyance are reflected here and everywhere else too; the problem isn't a lack of awareness.
Another rating site would change absolutely nothing about eBay's problems.
No offense, and have a nice weekend!
Best regards

·1 year agoeBay supports scammers!!
A Chinese seller offered clothing in silk and cotton, but what was delivered was 100% polyester.
The seller doesn't want to refund the money; we're supposed to send it back to China at our own expense and then it will be exchanged, which doesn't work since he lied and doesn't have the goods as described.
So we reported it to eBay; both the AI and an employee refused to open an eBay case, saying there was no violation.
👍👍👍👍
bootyooty
·1 year agoGreat... do you think the Chinese guy understands our Civil Code or Criminal Code, let alone offers a warranty?
Why buy there?
Report the item as differing from the description, then he has to send a return label and, of course, a return case can also be opened within the deadlines for that reason.
waldemer2lfw
·10 months ago"buyer" etc. out in the rain. Because the
return is often impossible or would cost more than twice the purchase price!!! Example purchase price 15 euros return with insurance about 42 euros of course you can't get a return label. For someone in their mid-60s that's disappointing. I've been a member for decades and have never had any problems with all my purchases. Except for the last one. This borders on legality and for me it's fraud! I won't buy anything from Ebay anymore as long as it stays that way. Brave new world. In this sense, get well soon and have a lovely Christmas season.
bootyooty
·10 months ago1. Reason for the return?
2. Item number?
3. Withdrawal or complaint?
You don't buy anything "from" ebay, but through ebay from a seller.
If an item is not as described, the seller covers the return shipping costs and not the buyer.
Return shipping with insurance? What do you mean by that, tracking and proof of delivery?
Or a high-value item with additional insurance?
Or return shipping abroad?
katzenjogi
·10 months agoHello @waldemer2lfw
Purchase price of 15 euros and return shipping costs with insurance of approx. 42 euros sounds to me like a purchase from the Far East. And as the buyer, you are responsible for making sure where the item comes from.
If the item location is stated as Germany, the seller must provide you with a return address in Germany. If the item location is stated as China, for example, then whether you like it or not, that is probably also the place it has to be sent back to. And if it is a cancellation because you don't like the item, then as the buyer you are also responsible for the return shipping costs.
Which item you buy and where is still your decision, and if you choose a Chinese item shipped from China by a Chinese seller, then you can't hold eBay responsible for any consequences of your decision.

OP2 years agoGood morning everyone,
@luden_hut
I agree with you there, but let's say you leave a negative rating and it suddenly disappears, then you know exactly what's going on here 😁
@voli-maus
By fairness I mean, for example,
that the balance between private vs. commercial has to be restored again; competition is good, but this no longer has anything to do with competition.
Example 1:
If I look at my commercial colleagues and the ratings there, they are single-digit or under 20 ratings (per month), if I look at the private ones, it's high two-digit or even three-digit ratings in one month and only sales (without purchases).
And when you then read collection liquidation, but 50 items have been bought in the last 10 days even though you want to liquidate your collection, it does make you think.
Sure, some people can now write again: then do something about it yourself, but if I had to run to a lawyer for everyone, I'd be there every day, and that can't be it.
It's not about begrudging someone or not, but if I only have to bleed while the others line their pockets without any obligations, then I don't find that
fair, you know ?
Example 2:
You also read and hear very often that commercial dealers usually get the short end of the stick, e.g. with returns or unjustified ratings.
What if, for example, a customer gets snotty with you, you can report them and/or rate them positively; what can a buyer do? Report you and rate you negatively, and that isn't fair either.
So, I wish everyone a nice weekend
luden_hut
·2 years agoMorning @mmstore74
What would be the point of that, as long as Ebay can control all of it?
Ebay will most likely start removing bad ratings there at some point too and posting its own positive ratings.
Why would it work any differently there than anywhere else?
External independent sites, such as Trustpilot, probably make more sense there, even if on such sites it’s mostly users who have had negative experiences and are venting their frustration who rate the platform.
